Q2: Shuster Keeps His Foot on the Gas

Rep. Bill Shuster

If you thought $495,000 in a fundraising quarter was the high water mark for Rep. Bill Shuster (R-Blair), you ain’t seen nothing yet.

The 7-term Congressman raised $646,785 in April, May and June, his campaign tells PoliticsPA. He has $916,180 on hand.

Shuster this year took the gavel of the powerful Transportation and Infrastructure Committee; leadership positions often correlate with bigger and better fundraising opportunities.

But he also has an opponent. Art Halvorson is a businessman and Coast Guard veteran who has hinted at being able to self-fund his conservative primary challenge to Shuster.

The district comprises parts of several southwestern Pa. counties and leans strongly Republican.

  1. Shuster has been the most corrupt, worthless Representative to call himself a Congressman in his gerrymandered District 09; who lies to his constituents on a daily basis; while working only for the wealthiest corporations to benefit the corporations and himself.
Even Republican Senators are ashamed of him; along with the rest of the House.
He’ll lose his re-election for sure.

  2. I am expecting the upgraded four lane Route 22 between Pittsburgh and Altoona to be named the “Bill Shuster Highway”

  3. Travis Schooley will also be challenging Bill Shuster. In fact Schooley registered for this race months before Halvorson. Schooley ran as a write-in in 2012: he won Fulton County spending NO money. And Schooley is the only candidate that was born and bred in CD 09.

The Schooley family have lived in this district for over 350 years–they were part of the Bedford Militia that held back the British Troops.

Schooley is smart, he is a vet, he is a fighter. He sees the people in this district as his family. Please consider donating to his campaign.

  4. “I suspect that Keith Rothfus, Scott Perry and Pat Toomey will stay far, far away from this.”

Let me guess…they’ve learned from the mistake that “cost” Santorum re-election?  (I assume you still irrationally insist that supporting Specter was the principal reason for his 20 point loss.)

  5. Former Senate Pro Tem President Robert Jubelirer of Altoona tried to buy the election. It did not work. US 9th has been reconfigured and no longer include liberal Cumberland county and has added the more conservative and the more Republican Indiana county.

I suspect that Art Halvorson may be receiving some major support from principled grassroots funders. Tea Party real deal Tom Smith is well known and very, very popular in Indiana County.

Bill Shuster and the hacks are very, very worried. Bill Shuster’s record is not a limited government, economic freedom record.

I suspect that Keith Rothfus, Scott Perry and Pat Toomey will stay far, far away from this. Personnel is policy and allying themselves with a Big Government Porker and advocate for earmarks can only taint them.
