Quinnipiac Poll: Corbett, Other Pols With Positive Approval

Gov. Tom Corbett’s job approval rating is in positive territory for the first time in months according to the latest poll from Quinnipiac. By a narrow 40 percent to 38 margin, bolstered by his handling of Hurricane Sandy, voters say he’s doing a good job.

It’s a 6 point swing in Corbett’s favor since the pollster last asked the question in mid-October. Then, voters disapproved his performance 42 percent to 38. It continues a trend of improvement for the Governor.

His approval is 42 percent to 38 percent among men and split 37 percent to 37 among women. Independents also split 37 percent to 37.

Quinnipiac surveyed 1,489 registered voters via live interviews on land lines and cell phones from Nov. 9 to 13. The margin of error is plus or minus 2.5 percent.

“With positive marks for his handling of Hurricane Sandy, Gov. Tom Corbett moves from a negative job approval to a break-even,” said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. “They give President Barack Obama even better scores.”

74 percent of voters said Obama’s response to Hurricane Sandy was “excellent” or “good,” compared to 61 percent for Corbett.

The numbers were in positive territory for every elected official they surveyed.

Barack Obama: 52 percent approve, 45 disapprove.
Bob Casey: 49 percent approve, 37 disapprove.
Pat Toomey: 43 percent approve, 28 disapprove (and it’s 42 percent positive, 35 negative in Philly alone).

Climate change

The pollster also looked at Hurricane Sandy and whether voters viewed the storm as being related to climate change.

While 63 percent of voters are somewhat or very concerned about climate change, only 43 percent say Sandy was a result of it. 51 percent said it was not related.

  1. The new Pa. State AG will connect Sandusky to Corbett and hang the missing Centre Co. DA around his neck. Corbett is a political albatross and he can’t even win his own primary. He is an arrogant, nasty and pompous jackass and the only chance the R’s have to keep the Gov’s seat is to dump him

  2. What is his approval rating among Penn State alums and supporters? Kathleen Kane’s performance in Central PA compared to other Dems is very telling. It was an anti-Corbett vote because of his handling of the Sandusky investigation.

  3. How much did he pay you to print this crap? I haven’t talked to anyone who will admit to supporting him. Some voted for him, but nobody will publicly admit it. By the time his election comes up, his political career will very likely be over. I fell for his crap before, but I opened my eyes and won’t make that mistake again.

  4. The only reason Corbett won that most Pennsylvania focus more on the senate race with Toomey vs Sestak. Now 2014 governer race is the only state wide seat schedal. he will get more attending and much more valeble I think that sestak will win the governer seat
