When it comes to the battle between businessman and gubernatorial candidate Bob Guzzardi and the state Republican Party it appears our readers are pessimistic that Guzzardi stands a chance.
Guzzardi shocked the state’s political world when he amassed enough signatures to make the May 20th GOP primary ballot against Governor Tom Corbett. His petitions were soon challenged, however, by four Republicans backed by the state party.
With the fight currently in the courts, we decided to ask our readers whether they thought Guzzardi would survive the challenge and ultimately be on the ballot come May 20th.
Nearly two-thirds of voters felt he wouldn’t. 92 readers said Guzzardi would not be able to overcome his opponents while 54 said he would win and get his day with Governor Corbett at the ballot box.
An important note: There were an unusually low number of voters in this week’s poll for a simple yet frustrating reason. The shutting down of PoliticsPA’s server on Tuesday made readers unable to respond to the poll and we were unfortunately unable to fix it.
The full results are included below:

The PAGOP cannot silence Bob Guzzardi and the Grass Roots!! Gleason and the Corbett Team will make Bob Guzzardi a PA political folk hero of epic proportions, which he deserves. http://youtu.be/4Prc1UfuokY Dead John Brown’s body caused the Civil War and ultimately led to Emancipation.
It is worth noting that the decision of the Commonwealth Court Judge when rendered may be appealed to the PA State Supreme Court.
I have explained repeatedly on this site that Guzzardi has a great-chance to make the ballot; the petitions are in-order, and he satisfied legislative-intent [fiscal-disclosure] when he filed everything with the DoS [info that was immediately uploaded on to the Internet].
Meanwhile, after Thursday’s Hearing [day #2], the Commonwealth Court judge promised a quick-ruling…but as of now, there’s nothing yet available.

This suggests that he was not bounced precipitously and, for myriad additional reasons that haven’t been validated [oral communications], he should shock your readership and survive [and become #1, above Corbett, on the ballot].
One additional comment about the petitions is in-order; it may be recalled that he submitted 12 counties with 100+ signatures, and 4 were challenged, although one [Delaware] was subsequently rescinded [a notarization glitch]. Therefore, he only needs to recoup one of the remaining 3 counties, one of which is Dauphin where he only needs 6 of ~2 dozen challenges to be reversed [and I counted 18 that should fit the bill].
I discussed the overall situation a few days ago…
