Reader Poll: How Would You Grade Reschenthaler’s Questioning During the Mueller Hearing?

Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (R-Allegheny) was the lone Pennsylvania Republican on the House Judiciary Committee to ask questions to former Special Counsel Robert Mueller on Wednesday.

While his two colleagues on the Democratic side in the state on this committee, Reps. Madeleine Dean (D-Montgomery) and Mary Gay Scanlon (D-Delaware), have advocated for impeachment in the months leading up to the hearing, Reschenthaler believes the conclusion of the report exonerated the President

During Reschenthaler’s five minutes of questioning, he accused Mueller of leaving out information in the report that would have been helpful for the President and said some of the information made public in the report without an indictment or prosecution was “Un-American.”

“You left our significant exculpatory evidence, in other words, significant evidence favorable towards the President, correct,” Reschenthaler said to Mueller.

Mueller responded by saying he disagreed with that accusation.

“The drafting and the publication of some of the information in this report without an indictment, without prosecution, frankly flies in the face of American justice,” Reschenthaler said. “And I find those facts and this entire process, Un-American.”

Reschenthaler pointed to his years of military service as a former officer in the United States JAG Corps in the Navy during the Iraq War and being elected as a Magisterial Judge in Pennsylvania as proof he was well versed on the law.

So we ask: How Would You Grade Reschenthaler’s Questioning During the Mueller Hearing?

The options will start with “A,” being the highest grade for Reschenthaler, down through with “F,” being the lowest grade possible for his questioning.

The poll will close at 5:30 pm on July 31.

  1. Not surprisingly, all the bashing on this page ignored the specifics of what he queried; bias is pervasive, but shouldn’t be dispositive.

  2. Mr Reschenthaler’s questioning was an embarrassment to the citizens of this district. To continue to support a president who is so clearly a criminal and a thug is unacceptable. Shame on you!

  3. The two accusations leveled were on point and not undermined:

Defenders of Nadler/Schiff should be able to refute these observations or admit that the Witch Hunt has ended, as the DoJ pivots [via Huber, Horowitz, Durham] to investigating the investigators.

    1. Noting how the two lady-Dems fell flat, again, it would seem the terse queries that were rebuffed are central to why Mueller [plus his Weissmann-authored report] was panned:

  4. It was utterly bizarre, especially because this 36-year-old Congress made a fool of himself to prop up someone he has to know will be defeated next year.

  5. exposed hypocrisy of treating The Donald as if he were BELOW the protections of the law

  6. The Representative’s past is clear – he was a litigator and MDJ that believes very strongly in Due Process. He speaks about Mueller’s report as if it were a trial.

Mueller’s Report was not a trial. There is nothing about the process that required Mueller to follow the tradition level of Due Process.

Representative Reschenthaler is viewing this as a prosecutor, with Mueller being the Chief Prosecutor. This wasn’t a prosecution, this was an investigation that may lead to a prosecution. There are a number of key differences between those two things.

    1. Right – Mueller was not a prosecutor. I knew a lot of Dems who clearly also misunderstood that basic fact. It really doesn’t matter now. Trump is not being removed. The Dems will have to beat him where it really counts – the ballot box.

      1. I don’t think it was just the Dems that misunderstood Mueller’s role, but many Republicans as well. Republicans have gone running saying that “no charges, he’s exonerated!” when in reality Mueller has made clear that it was not his place to file charges or not.

        1. Oh, totally agree. There was ignorance on both sides. I did have a funny conversation with someone who was wayyyy to the left. Told me they knew for a fact that Mueller would hold Kavanaugh in contempt. It is hard to even have a conversation after hearing that. I have had the same with some on the right as well. The, “I knew someone at the pizza shop and it is true” thing is an indication to move away from that individual quickly.

  7. The bottom line is that some Dems are still holding out to the false hope of Trump being removed from office. That will NOT happen. He needs to be voted out. Period. End of story. They need to get off of fantasy island.

  8. The absence of concern for the actions of the Russians in at tacking our Democracy is what all Americans should be angry at. Protecting the president is the first priority of the republicans instead of protecting and defending the Constitution. They have violated their oath of office.

  9. As someone who has supported Republicans I found Cong Reschenthaler’s questioning to be towing the party line and more of what we don’t need–a follower and not a leader. Someone who votes for the person and not the party is not found with Cong “Res.” To say the Mueller Report clears Trump strains the credible to say the least.

    1. Indeed. His claims to fame show him for the PISSANT he is, in comparison with Mr. Mueller!

      1. I must agree that the Congressman’s analysis is embarrassing to every PA Magisterial District Judge…he obviously learned nothing in judicial office. He is a spineless follower, a craven politician. In contrast, Mueller is a man of rock solid integrity, a true American hero.

  10. Reschenthaler showed how unamerican he is by just ignoring the fact the Russians interfered in the election and continue to do so. That was one of the major findings Of the mueller report. Not even the Butcher of Fallugah got into our elections. By the way, when is he going to stop bragging about a prosecution no one ever heard of?

  11. You ought to post n=X or number of responses like Twitter does, btw.
    And gulag Pittsburgh, nice one!
And finally, he was a bantam. Laughable.

  12. Like the rest of the GOP, Reschenthaler is unAmerican and hates America. So sad. He chose party over country. He clearly was preforming for an audience of one and I’m pretty sure we all know who that is.

  13. I guess people were not impressed with his knowledge of the law as he was.
