Reader Poll: Tabas Should Be The Next PAGOP Chair

The Pennsylvania Republican Party is just days away from selecting a new party chair to complete the term started by Val DiGiorgio. PoliticsPA readers believe the runner-up in the heated 2017 race to DiGiorgio should lead the party for the next two years.

With 10,857 votes casted, 58% of PoliticsPA readers believe that former state GOP general counsel Lawrence Tabas should head the PAGOP. Ted Christian, former state director for President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign, finished second in the poll racking up 32%. Christian, along with Donald Trump Jr. and other allies for the POTUS, has endorsed the candidacy of vice chair of the PAGOP Bernie Comfort.

Comfort finished third in the poll garnering 6% of the vote. Former Congressman Lou Barletta, who has endorsed Comfort for the position, finished fourth in the poll with 3% of the vote. 1% polled selected former state Rep. Gordon Denlinger (R-Lancaster), while 2% polled believe someone else should be selected.

Montgomery County GOP Chair Elizabeth Preate Havey, who was reportedly being discussed as a candidate for the position, reached out to PoliticsPA to confirm she is definitively not seeking the PAGOP Chair. She had 214 votes in the poll before her name was removed. Chairman of the Southeast PA GOP caucus Andy Reilly was also reportedly mentioned as a candidate to succeed DiGiorgio, but a spokesperson for him contacted PoliticsPA to confirm that he is also not seeking the PAGOP Chair. He had 424 votes in the poll before his name was removed.

While Comfort has earned the support of Trump allies, Tabas is being backed by former PAGOP Chair Rob Gleason.

The Pennsylvania GOP selects a new chair this Saturday.

  1. Bernie Comfort has worked the entire Commonwealth for Republican candidates, especially females, for decades. Hard working and a lady that has paid her dues. Anyone endorsed by Gleason doesn’t impress. Where was his leadership with the Judicial massacre?? We’ll pay a huge price for that inept action for decades to come.

  2. Oh please pick Lou and drive away the little that remains of your sensible middle. That would be awesome.

  3. As a solid Bucks Co Republican, I think Tabas would be the best to reinvigorate the Pennsylvania GOP.

Networking, fundraising, energy. Tabas has it all.

    1. Also a long-time Bucks County Republican, I agree that Tabas is the best candidate.
