Reader Poll: Trivedi or Parrish in PA-6?

pa 6 d primary

Last month, Rep. Jim Gerlach shocked the political world by announcing his retirement from Congress.

While the move initially brought chaos to the Republican Party, they eventually rallied around Chester County Commissioner Ryan Costello. The Democrats, however, find themselves with an intriguing primary match-up.

Mike Parrish, an ex-Republican, had already entered the race before Gerlach’s announcement and was expected to have an easy path to the nomination. Despite efforts by national Democratic leaders to keep it that way, however, one opponent emerged.

Manan Trivedi was the Democratic nominee against Jim Gerlach in 2010 and 2012. After the incumbent dropped out, Trivedi decided to run hoping the third time would prove the charm. Trivedi also received a large number of local endorsements in an attempt to counter Parrish’s bigger political muscle, the DCCC.

So, we ask you our readers, which Democrat do you think will win the primary in PA-6?

  1. I believe we need to go forward with a proven Democrat.
The emergence of a fommer Republican will not be enough to satisfy the need for progress in a new congress.

  2. I prefer neither. Trivedi should consider the State House, that would be an interesting race. Parrish’s change seems too convenient and opportunistic, I cannot wait to see him close up this spring. The Dems should have anticipated this open seat and moved someone into the district like the Repubs did with Gerlach.

  3. Observer-
My point is that tommyd’s analogy is wrong because Sestak was never really a Democrat in the first place.

The closer analogy is the 2012 primary race for the 15th. There, a well-funded Republican-turned-Democrat-in-November was supported/embraced by the party bean counters over the poorly funded Lehigh County Democratic chairman. After the Dem chairman won the primary, he got NO support from the party, yet managed to get the same 42% of the vote as the well-funded Dems in the 6th and the 8th.

This was a failure by the party to support the Dem in the 15th in both the Primary and the General.

    1) Sestak is not a real Democrat. He certainly didn’t run as a Democrat against Toomey. Once the primary ended, Sestak stripped the word “Democrat” from his ads and message.

    2) Clinton was behind Sestak. Rendell was part of recruitment of Specter away from the darkside

  5. The Parrish votes in this poll are from wishful Republicans, who know that if Parrish wins the Primary, they are guaranteed to have a Koch Brothers Republican elected in the fall.

  6. Remember when the Democratic leadership decided an Ex-Republican should be US Senator from PeeYay, then decided to undercut the Democrat who ran against the ex-Republican and won the primary? The Democrat lost by a hair to a faux-Tea Party/actual Wall Street Republican because Rendell/Clinton wouldn’t help out. I hope the Dem leadership pays more attention to Democratic voters this time.
