Reed Dodges on Possible Gov, Senate Bids

Reed-PORT-2014Dave Reed (R-Indiana) continues to leave his 2018 plans an open question. The House Majority Leader is rumored as a possible candidate for Governor as well as U.S. Senate.

At a campaign event with the Pa. Republican Party Monday, Reed declined to confirm or deny rumors of his interest in higher office.

“I am focused on 2017, and I am not a lawyer so I cannot run for judge,” Reed said.

Reed is showing interest in a run for statewide office.  He recently started a website targeted towards a statewide run.  Reed has a strong resume for statewide office, he is young, chaired the House Republican Campaign Committee which gives him connections to donors and a statewide network, and was chosen in 2011 by PoliticsPA as most likely to be Governor.

State Senator Scott Wagner (R-York) already announced his bid for Governor, while State Representative Rick Saccone, and Andrew Shecktor both announced bids for U.S. Senate.  Former Lieutenant Governor Jim Cawley, Congressman Mike Kelly (R-Butler), western Pennsylvania businessman Paul Mango are all rumored to be considering a run for Governor.  Kelly is also rumored to be considering a run for Senate.

  2. I know Dave personally. He is a straight shooter and a normal conservative not a Trump toady. If he runs for state office I wish him success.

  3. “I am not a lawyer so I am not running for judge.” Was that an attempt at a joke?

  4. Seneca: Stop maligning sharks. Wagner is more like a carp or sucker, both bottom feeders.

  5. It seems like he is being an opportunist and waiting to see if Shuster retires so he doesn’t have a fight on his hands. Reed never ran a real campaign and would get crushed and probably sent back to Indiana with his tail between his legs if he ran for Governor or U.S. Senate. He could only handle a super safe U.S. House seat if that… He needs to make decisions.

  6. Eric – please stop posting under fake names. This wasn’t cute in 2013 and it’s even sadder today. If you can’t win a county race, you’re certainly not going to have better luck statewide. Have some dignity, man.

  7. Very interesting points, MarkMyWords. Agree that Reed is not gubernatorial, or senatorial material. Maybe some day, but not now.

Reed would do Pennsylvanians best to continue to dodge as he finds a way to keep doing his job as House Majority Leader. Right now he looks like Charlie the Tuna considering if it’s worth it diving into a pool full of sharks and barracudas. It might be worth some hard thinking beforehand.

Wagner is the biggest shark so far, and the best to go against the Seawolf. We may have a barracuda or two competing with him in the swim toward the governor’s mansion. But already way out of Charlie the Tuna’s league. As for the US Senate seat, we have some as yet unidentified type of fish, cadet barracudas at best, but more likely just tuna like Charlie, swimming to meet Casey, the big shark.

  8. Reed’s #1 goal is to get Tom Wolf re-elected. He’s not ready for a statewide race in 2018. So he lets Wagner, Mango, Turzai, et al shoot their wad in 2018–ultimately losing because Dave Reed helps Wolf moderate his liberalism (pension “reform”, some liquor “reform”, tax increases but not “broad based” ones, while not pushing issues that will expose Wolf’s extremism). This gives Reed an “open” seat in 2022. Mark my words. Reed is looking to make deals with the Governor, and he won’t be looking to make him look bad.

  9. Former Lower Merion Constable Eric Bradway is running for Governor on the Democratic Ticket against Gov Wolf .

  10. Another blog posting, another slew of misplaced commas, typographical goofs, and grammatical errors.
