State House Majority Leader Dave Reed (R-Indiana) will run to replace retiring Congressman Bill Shuster (R-Blair).
GOP sources told PoliticsPA that Reed has been in contact with the county GOP chairs in the district ahead of an announcement in the near future.
“He has been strongly leaning towards entering the race. I would be excited for have him get in the race,” Indiana County GOP Chairman Jesse Daniel said.
PoliticsPA is seeking comment from Reed.
Reed is serving his second term as Majority leader, and his eighth in the state House.
The 9th Congressional district is being vacated by Shuster, who announced earlier this month he would not be seeking re-election.
It’s unclear if Reed will also circulate petitions for re-election to the State House.

Reed was a democrat before he decided he could only win his district as a republican. Now he’s a RINO, which is the main reason such bad legislation gets put up for consideration on the floor. He’s also a back stabbing bastard. How he can look in the mirror in the morning escapes me.
What’s so good about him? Isn’t he a Republican?
By far the most promising option to step forward in the race as of yet. We could use a fresh voice in DC that is still in touch with his hometown roots. Many will find his logical approach refreshing after the GOP’s antics lately.
Yea, real promising. Reed was about to wrap up the shortest majority leader tenure in history if he didn’t decide to run for something else really quickly before he gets fired. That’s just what we need.
He’s the quintessential moderate Republican running in a super conservative district. Look at his record. Never met a tax he couldn’t support. His only chance is that the conservatives in the race don’t get out of their own way and they split the vote.
Only candidate to announce that would be worse than Reed is Halvorson, but for completely different reasons.
He is smiling because Eichelberger and Halvorson are fighting over the same voters.
Travis Schooley has thrown his hat in the ring too.
Oh thank heavens. We’re saved.
Schooley is not a credible candidate he will only take a percentage of conservative voters. He could not win or come in second place to be a commissioner in Franklin County. All he does is lose.
He and his wife. Yikes!
I feel bad for his wife
I can’t wait until all the dirt on this loser comes out. His arrogance is matched only by his stupidity
Great. Now we can start talking about his background of “family values”. This guys a clown and has been from day one.
