Rendell Joins Ballard Spahr, Nears Signing Deal With MSNBC

If our now-former Governor plans to take a day off before starting his next endeavor, there’s no evidence that PoliticsPA can see.

Ballard Spahr, a high-profile national law firm, announced this morning that Rendell would rejoin the firm as a partner in the Philadelphia office.

And earlier this morning, Politico reported that Rendell is close to finalizing a deal with MSNBC to become a political commentator for the 2012 cycle.

Rendell has been a frequent guest on MSNBC, including this appearance in November 2009.

In a press release this morning, Rendell said he was looking forward to returning to Ballard Spahr, where he had previously been a partner.

“Ballard was always one of the best law firms in Philadelphia and its profile and strength as a national firm are greater than ever before. The firm had seven offices when I left in 2003. It now has 13. This is a great time to be coming back and I look forward to contributing to the firm’s growth and stature.”

In a wide-ranging interview with Politico (that you should read), Rendell said that he wouldn’t be content with slowing down.

“Would I be happy just practicing law? No. Would I be happy just doing TV and speeches? No. I want to do all of these things and be as active as I can . . . but my main goal is to have some degree of influence on the public discussion,” Rendell said.

  2. If Rendell joins MSNBC, it will be upgraded by orders of magnitude as the closest to even-handedness MSNBC has offered will come to shock those used to hearing every G.O.P. move converted into a conspiracy against the public weal. Maybe that’s why that other fella – I can’t remember his name – terminated last week ? Remember well Big Ed courageously stood tall against the zealots and opposed the Gore crew’s efforts to win the Presidency in a court-room.
