After talking up former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s shot at winning the presidency with an independent run, former PA Gov. Ed Rendell is reassuring Democrats across the state and country that he will support their nominee.
In an interview with the New York Times over the weekend, Rendell said Bloomberg would have a legitimate chance if Democrats nominate Bernie Sanders and Republicans name Donald Trump at the top of their ticket – but he has since changed his tune.
“I like Bernie Sanders. I think he’s a good guy. He’s got a good heart,” Rendell told Chris Brennan of the Inquirer. “I think I would almost certainly stay with the Democratic nominee, even if he is a socialist.”
Rendell, a former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, has supported Hillary Clinton for years and is working to alleviate some of the fears surrounding her campaign. With Bernie Sanders gaining in polls from Iowa and New Hampshire, some are drawing comparisons to now-President Barack Obama’s unlikely success in the early states in 2008.
“I’ve reminded Clinton backers that New Hampshire changes like the wind. I told people, ‘Stay cool, don’t panic,’” Rendell said in an interview with POLITICO’s Gabriel Debenedetti. “My Philadelphia-area Clinton donors are a little nervous. But most donors know a little bit about politics, a little bit sometimes hurts.”

Oh yes!! Perhaps “###” should take over and be a leader!!!!
Rendell is no Democrat anyway—he and Bloomberg are both corporatists.
Of, by, and for the “people”—you know, corporate persons/corporate personhood. This guy needs to go fishing and enjoy smelling the roses, his role in politics is getting tired. Or, stick to sports!
Alert the presses! Perennial loser and professional stoner Steve Todd supports Bernie Sanders. So we know who won’t win!

Didn’t commit. He said:
“I THINK I would ALMOST certainly stay…”
That’s not a commitment. Image that in wedding vows.
Great call Governor Rendell. Hilary is extremely qualified and most prepared to govern our country. If she governs as her husband did, reaching out to both sides and working for the good of the country, the US will be great once again.
Bravo, Mr Governor. I have committed to sticking with the Dem, even if it is someone other than TheBern. Glad to see you do the same.
Rendell just trying to help out his pal, Clinton. Relax.
Senator Rutherford B. Cattywampus-
You took the post right out of my keyboard.
It’s time for this jackass to get off the political stage and just open a cheese-steak and hoagie shop.
Bravo, gulag, bravo
Rendell, trying to pull that massive foot out his bloviating mouth…
Apparently, there is on sensible Repervlican in PA:
Sponsor of the House resolution, Rep. Garth Everett, R-Lycoming, said he doesn’t believe the Senate’s process is “the constitutional process.”
“I think I would almost certainly stay with the Democratic nominee, even if he is a socialist.”
What kind of bullshit statement is that, Ed? We all stayed with the Democratic party, even if you were a __________.
Hillary Clinton must have slapped some sense back into Rendell.
Going away from the Democrat nominee would be the dumbest mistake Rendell made since appointing unqualified Cynthia Baldwin to vacancy on PA Supreme Court. Ethically-challenged, stupid and racist Baldwin thus became the first black female on PA Supreme Court, before going on to be counsel for Penn State and botch the prosecution of administrators there for covering for Jerry Sandusky.
