Rendell to black voters: ‘They’re trying to screw the President’

Ed Rendell, as usual, has the purest distillation of his party’s message:

Gov. Ed Rendell approached two men eating in the food court at One Liberty Place in Center City Philadelphia during the lunch hour rush Monday. After obliging them with talk about the Philadelphia Eagles (Rendell predicted a 10-6 season and trip to the playoffs for the Birds) he said, “But tomorrow. Tomorrow. Vote.”

Then he leaned in and said, “You know they’re trying to screw the president, right?”

It’s a message Rendell kept up as he went table-to-table with U.S. Sen. Bob Casey as part of a day-long, person-to-person get-out-the-vote effort in the Democratic-leaning city. It’s one that he stressed hardest with African-Americans.

“You know they’re trying to get the president,” he told one table. “We can’t let them.”

Beats “Vote Sestak.”
