State Rep. Margo Davidson is the latest name to be circulated for Lieutenant Governor amidst an already crowded Democratic field.
Despite denying rumors that she was running for Lt. Gov. back in May, according to Pennsylvania Progressive, Davidson has been rallying Delaware County Democrats around her potential candidacy. According to a party official, Davidson is exploring the race but won’t formally announce before the first of the new year.
PoliticsPA is seeking comment from Davidson; her office is closed Monday for the Columbus Day holiday.
If she makes her campaign official, she’ll face a pack of declared candidates including former congressman Mark Critz, Harrisburg City Councilman Brad Koplinski, Bradford County Commissioner Mark Smith and Harrisburg city official Brenda Alton. The pool of rumored candidates for Lieutenant Governor also remains deep and has included PSEA official Mike Crossey and State Rep. Brandon Neuman.
Davidson is the first Democrat, the first African American and the first woman to represent the 164th Legislative District since taking office in 2011.
Davidson is seeking reelection for her General Assembly seat in 2014 and will definitely face declared Republican opponent, Earl Toole of the Upper Darby School Board.
There are also rumors that she may face a primary challenger but no name has surfaced yet.
The Pa. Progressive listed several issues that make Davidson a potential target for a primary:
“Margo Davidson’s record in Harrisburg is extremely troubling and includes a vote to close abortion clinics, prevent women from purchasing abortion insurance coverage with their own funds in the new ACA exchanges and support of school vouchers. She spoke for vouchers on the House floor, an effort which drains our public schools of desperately needed revenue.”

Thank you for any other wonderful post. The place else may anybody get that kind of information in such
an ideal means of writing? I’ve a presentation subsequent week, and I am on the look for such information.
We have ourselves to blame. We voted for her. The question now is whether the delco dems will be fooled again….
CentPADem-
I suggested a McCord/Wagner ticket earlier in the year. Neither would have to cross the center of the state for campaigning. 🙂
I’ll keep saying it…. Even though it’s probably not where he wanted to be, Jack Wagner needs to run for Lt. Gov and McCord needs to win the May Dem primary. McCord / Wagner will win in a landslide over Corbett / Cawley.
Spare me. Margo Davidson is a Republican in Democrat’s clothing. Not only is she anti-choice and pro-voucher, but she was the last Democrat in the Philly area to cosponsor the marriage equality and anti-discrimination bills. She is a total fraud.
More strategically, what is her plan? She has little name recognition in Delaware County outside of Upper Darby. I doubt voters in Philadelphia know her, let alone the rest of the state. Moreover, the gubernatorial nominee is going to be Schwartz or McCord — so we already have a Southeastern candidate on the ticket. Especially if Schwartz wins, can you imagine an anti-choice crusader like Davidson campaigning/working with an active champion of women’s rights?
She will definitely lose the LG primary, and hopefully she will be defeated in the primary for her House re-election. Bye, Margo!
Why not run? Everyone else does. If she gets first ballot position, she might even win. I am sure she will make a good running mate for Allyson Schwartz. But Cawley will eat her lunch in the debate no one will watch

While I agree we need more woman in the state legislature and in the leadership, we also need ones who are progressive.
Margo’s track record, particularly on women’s issues like abortions, makes her a poor choice for a leader in the Democratic party. Surely, we can do better.
Sorry, the field is full. Too late; don’t do it.
Also, with the number of Democratic women in the PA House so pitifully small, we need Rep. Davidson to stay where she is, and as a previous comment said, start working her way up in Leadership. And she should help throw the ladder down so that other Democratic women, especially from other parts of the state, can start climbing their way up to getting elected. It’s very hard now because women have to fight the male-dominated HDCC and the old boys network. Stay in the House and help other women get in there!
Delco observer,
Problem seems to be Margo is stooge of the voucher crowd.
she cant win sorry.
Sounds to me like the Delco dem cabal is trying to dump her and put in a Landau or Bradley stooge. If she is smart she stays in state house and stops wasting time on Lt. Gov. Work on electing more dems to house Margo and embrace the progressive agenda..make your mark that way and move up in leadership
Yup!
Politics PA-
Did you accidentally print an April 1st story here?
Let me get this straight: she’s so worried about getting challenged in a primary and losing her incumbency, that she’s seeking higher office?
I certainly agree that she’s vulnerable to a primary challenge. I’ve called for one myself, and offered to support a decent challenger.
The quote from PA Progressive doesn’t mention that Margo voted for the horrible Congressional re-districting plan we now have. Any Dem who couldn’t get THAT vote right needs to be replaced by a Democrat who knows better.
