Pa. Republican Representatives, Mike Kelly and Lou Barletta, are among the most buzz-worthy House Freshmen of the 112th Congress.
While nearly eighty new members entered the U.S. House of Representatives in January, only a choice few have become media starlets nearly nine months into their first year of office.
According to a Smart Politics content analysis of LexisNexis news transcripts from ABC, CBS, CNN, FOX, MSNBC and NPR find that Republican U.S. Representative Allen West (FL-22) has received the most media coverage with 17.9% while Pa. Reps, Kelly and Barletta are in 10th and 13th place, respectively.
Not surprisingly, Republican freshmen in the House have made a much bigger proportional footprint in the media than their Democratic counterparts, wielding more power as the majority party as well as frequently making headlines by opposing President Obama’s agenda.
Some of the headlines Mike Kelly has made over the past few months are Mike Kelly On The Korea- United States Free Trade Agreement, For GOP House Freshmen Mike Kelly, Washington Is A Tough Sell and Kelly:Too Hard To Be Profitable In US.
Some of the headlines Lou Barletta has made over the past few months are Federal Appeals Court Strikes Down Hazleton’s Immigration Ordinances, Freshmen Feel The Heat Back Home and Rep Barletta Laughs at Constituents Who Question His Support For Oil Subsidies.
