As rumored last week, Representative Ron Miller will seek the nomination to fill Senator Mike Waugh’s vacant seat.

“Public service is a true passion of mine and I firmly believe I can be an effective advocate for the people of York County in the State Senate,” Miller explained.  “As a member of the State House, I am uniquely positioned to hit the ground running and aggressively tackle the important issues facing the citizens of York County and the Commonwealth in the coming months and beyond.”

Waugh made his resignation official yesterday, announcing that he will take a position with the State Department of Agriculture. He had previously stated that he would retire at the end of his term, but decided instead to resign, triggering a special election.

In a special election, the Republican committee members of York County who live in the district will get to select their nominee for the seat, and Miller is a favorite.

Miller added that he plans to be a candidate for both the Special and Primary Elections.  The Special Election for the 28th Senatorial District was scheduled by the lieutenant governor for Tuesday, March 18th.

York County conservatives have called this special election a “back room deal” orchestrated by Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi (R-Chester). Conservative activist Scott Wagner had been seeking the Republican primary nomination for this seat for several months, but now will have to face an incumbent in the primary, likely Miller.
