“@wgregrothman: Vic Stabile is now PA Superior Court Judge Stabile”
The second time was the charm for Vic Stabile. The Cumberland County attorney won Pennsylvania’s open Superior Court seat in a 3 point victory.
He overcame Democrat Jack McVay, a judge on the Allegheny Court of Common Pleas.
With 93% of precincts reporting, Stabile lead 51.5% to 48.5%.
It was a low-key race until the final week, when McVay and Stabile each aired television ads. McVay ran a positive spot emphasizing his Pittsburgh roots, while Stabile’s ad accused McVay of nepotism.
Stabile lost a race for the same office by 9 points in 2011.
It’s a big win for the Pa. Republican Party, largely responsible for running Stabile’s effort. It breaks Democrats’ perfect streak; they won all 5 statewide races in 2012.
Further, though overall turnout was low across Pa., Stabile’s win shows the lack of any strong voter momentum against the GOP.

It’s also a big loss for integrity and politics. Running false and misleading ads at the last minute in violation of a pledge – where’s the honor in that? Mr. Stabile should be ashamed. Of course, it just goes to show that he’s not judge material – he’s a political hack who wanted a cool job.
