Rick Santorum Confronted by Crazy Questioner (VIDEO)

There’s one in every crowd.

Unfortunately for former Senator Rick Santorum, he had to field the question from the crazy person.

The 2012 and prospective 2016 presidential candidate was attending the South Carolina National Security Action Summit last week.

In a video discovered by Andrew Kaczynski of Buzzfeed, Santorum was confronted by a woman angry that Congress hasn’t done more to stop President Obama (the questioner did not seem aware that Santorum is no longer in Congress).

After accusing House Speaker John Boehner of making a supposed deal with the President to allow amnesty for illegal immigrants, the woman, who remains off-screen, grew increasingly agitated.

“Why is the Congress rolling over and letting this communist dictator destroy my country,” she screamed. “Y’all know what he is and I what he is. I want him out of the White House, he’s not a citizen. He could’ve been removed a long time ago.”

The woman was not done, however, as she accused the President of trying to nuke the country for some reason.

“Where do we go from here? Ted [Cruz] told me I’ve got to wait now til the next election. I don’t think the country will be around for the next election,” she asserted before dropping the big one (pun intended). “Obama tried to blow up a nuke in Charleston a few months ago.”

Santorum was visibly uncomfortable throughout the entire diatribe and tried to turn the question into a riff on the President’s executive actions on immigration.

“He [President Obama] did something, as you mentioned the word tyrant comes to mind,” the former Senator said in response to the woman’s original question on immigration. “The President has done a lot of dangerous things, this is the most dangerous thing he has ever done.”

The exchange between Santorum and the woman, who identified herself as a retired school teacher, begins at 17:55 in the video above.

Update: Thanks to the invaluable Dave Weigel of Bloomberg News, we now know the “nuke in Charleston” story came from 9/11 conspiracy theorist and famously crazy person Alex Jones.

  1. I try not to let idiots bother me like the Republicans who only watch Fox News who conitinually misinform people. Santorum scares the crap out of me but God willing and Democrats vote we will get rid of the ghouls known as Far Far Right Republicans. I don’t see one Democrat whining in these posts just a bunch of crazy Republicans who don’t realize who wants to take everything from them. No need to argue with people who don’t want to know the facts.

  2. Well, the good news is, that crazy is no longer in the classroom influencing children.

  3. There is no executive Amnesty and no one in Congress has agreed with anything President Obama has proposed. Is anyone looking into what village is missing their idiot?

  4. Santorum did one of the finest imitations of a bobble-head toy I ever saw. But he knows his base. Unlike John McCain who had reached the point where he just didn’t care about the consequences of shutting down the emotionally unstable and factually challenged woman at his town hall by saying something sane about Obama, Santorum has no chance whatsoever without the lunatic fringe. He knows it, too.

  5. It’s these kind of crazies that are taking over our country! It is scary and sick…and Rick Santorum did not have the guts to stop this woman and stand up against this horrible ranting. He is to me the biggest form of a hypocrit..and he is the Christian Values man! He is as deplorable as she was…at least John McCain had the respect to correct that other crazy that insulted President Obama….this guy is a weasel!

  6. “One”? In any GOP crowd, you might find “one” who isn’t a raving loon. Probably not, though.

  7. Hypocrisy my ass Upson Downs! What I did was speak the truth and my disgust at the state of politics, government and voters like the woman in the video. What I stated is truth not hypocrisy. If my words are hard for you to swallow, get a glass of kool-aid, put on your tin-foil hat and watch Fox News. There you’ll feel better.

  8. Dave, I totally agree with you. I was horrified when I heard her rant last night. She is a retired teacher, and so am I. How embarrassing that someone like that was once credentialed to teach children. How totally misinformed. As a supposedly educated person, didn’t she know that you can’t rely on one type of source for information? What is the deal with Rick Santorum? Such a coward. How is it possible that he didn’t didn’t try to stop an out-of-control rant. Republicans have always gone insane when a democrat is elected president. Since we have a black democrat in the White House, republican bigots have become totally out of control, they’ve elected the most unproductive congress in history, one that would rather undermine progress then compromise and govern. Their hatred has blinded them to facts. Then, facts and logic don’t mean anything to Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, Newsmax, and all extreme right “news” sources.

  9. What is there to say? ! The crazy ship left the port a long time ago in this Country! The fact that Santorum wasn’t insulted by this rant is now what’s wrong with the mainstream Republican Party. Crackpots and Kooks now sound almost normal to these politicians.

  10. David Diano – I always love how Pres. Obama has a time machine and is holding out on us. Despite taking office in January 2009, he was responsible for the Bush Administration’s failed response to Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and the Economic Crisis of 2008. They seem to forget gas prices were pushing $5 a gallon the summer before and point out that it was under $2 when he took office… conveniently forgetting that that was because the markets took a swan dive that ended in a belly flop.

Nick – Tongue firmly planted in cheek, I suggest the following article, entitled “No One Cares If Your Puns Were Intended”

  11. Dave, no need to call you names, or even to point out the ironic hypocrisy of your post. Your rant speaks for itself.

  12. This is all a big misunderstanding. The government was trying to detonate a *cuke* in Charleston harbor, not a *nuke.* An extra-large cucumber was spotted floating around the harbor and might have become a danger to shipping if it weren’t dealt with. Repeated attempts to remove it had failed, and the military concluded that the only option left was to blow it up. The military officers were dismissed, very properly, because they ultimately could not even destroy the cucumber by firepower or depth charges. Finally the cuke floated to shore where it was pecked apart by ravenous seagulls.

  13. This woman is hilarious. It is nothing like a good laugh before I go to bed. Insane in the membrane!!!!

  14. Hey jmarshak, how about a Xanax with your Kool-Aid and tin foil hat Conservative?

  15. These upset seniors aren’t even noticing that their beloved Republicans met today to dismantle their Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security….
Fox News may single handedly be responsible for misinforming the everyday senior.
It is the proverbial Republican war on women, as well.
The screamer from the audience could herself be an eventual nursing home resident whose family is depending on Medicaid to pay for her long term care and hospice.
It isn’t President Obama threatening her future. IT IS REPUBLICANS

  16. Santorum was only interested in defending himself for not currently being a member of Congress. He had his chance to redirect the total hyperbole of the comment, and he did not.
He had plenty of time to formulate an answer, and failed.
Typical right wing republican who hates the president with one thousand hot suns and can’t figure out a decent response,
Time to initiate a commitment hearing at Torrance for the dangerously out of touch speaker

  17. Who will they blame when Obama’s gone?

Well, they are still blaming Carter for stuff, and he’s been out of office over 30 years. But, in Louisiana, more Republicans blame Obama than Bush for the response to hurricane Katrina.

  18. Sorry, it should be “…because of a small error.” I missed the letter a. So, are you going to criticize me now too jmarshak? Perhaps you’re an angry conservative with nothing to say but a critique of someone’s sentence?

  19. jmarshak: You probably have nothing constructive to say in response to Dave’s comment when you tear apart his comments because of small error. Who made you the grammar police?Leave the guy alone.

  20. jmarshak: And exactly what was wrong with that sentence? I take away “It’s” and you have the exact same sentence as you wrote? How is it not coherent? Maybe I forgot something from english class many years ago. I’m human, give me a break. You don’t have to throw my comments back at me over a tiny, little error.

  21. “[U]ninformed voters like that woman is partly the reason why our Congress is ran by morons.”

If you’re going to call somebody else stupid, at least make sure that you can write a coherent sentence first.

  22. Not surprised at the stupidity of this woman. That woman is a good picture of the Republican base. Stupid, gullible and easy to scare. It’s uninformed voters like that woman is partly the reason why our Congress is ran by morons. Those morons were voted in by morons. The GOP knows this and that is why Fox News is such a great propaganda tool for the GOP. When Obama is gone in 2017, who will that woman turn her hate, bigotry and stupidity to? Whoever and whatever Fox News tells her to. That is what’s wrong with the American electorate. Now I wait for a conservative reader to yell at me and call me a Libtard. Go ahead, I dare you.
