As anticipated, Rob McCord officially declared his candidacy for Governor this morning in an email to potential supporters.
In the email, McCord asked for donations, pledged to help take down Corbett, and laid out his campaign vision:
“I’m running for governor because I know that right now, somewhere in Pennsylvania, there’s a kid being raised by a single mom or dad. They don’t have a lot of money, but they’ve got big dreams — dreams as big as mine were,” McCord wrote. “I want this state to be a place where if they work hard and they play by the rules, they can make it — just like I did. That’s what Pennsylvania’s about.”
The PA GOP used McCord’s announcement to blast Democrats and Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz over the party’s already crowded field.
“Rob McCord has been playing politics from the Treasurer’s office for months now, but perhaps instead using [sic] taxpayer dollars for political attacks all day, he’ll actually discuss why his extreme agenda is more liberal than the hundreds of liberal votes made by front-runner Allyson Schwartz,” said Republican Party of Pennsylvania Chairman Rob Gleason.
Along with the aforementioned Congresswoman, McCord joins a race that includes Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski, former DEP Secretaries Katie McGinty and John Hanger, and former Revenue Secretary Tom Wolf.
He spoke this morning at Montgomery County Community College to kick off the campaign and is presently en route to an event at the IBEW union hall in Pittsburgh.

Can’t believe anyone would be dumb enough to want to privitize the PA Lottery. Why is getting rid of a viable source of income for the Commonwealth a good idea?
Can’t wait until Corbett is no longer in office.
Good candidate but may not win primary….despite being better general candidate over Schwartz. Sort of a catch 22.
from state treasure to governor i dont think rob mccord payed his due.i forgot he did post lost property in many newspapers and disagrees with everything corbett says.so i guess he is qualified not.cant wait the next female governor long over due
If Chairman Gleason’s hyperbolic rant is any indication of the mess his organization is in right now, I don’t think Rob has anything to worry about. To that extend, neither does any half-way viable Democrat at this point.
Gleason says “McCord is playing politics with the Treasurers Office”. Isn’t that what Corbett did for 6 years with the Atty Generals Office!?!?!?!?
So the best Gleason can do is spout a few dog-whistle devil terms in a nearly incoherent sentence…
Rob more liberal than Schwartz? Cool ! I didn’t realize Rob Gleason was the first to endorse McCord for the Dem primary.
McCord is pro-choice, pro-labor, pro-gun control and pro-LGBT rights. How is that a conservadem?
McCord is a conservadem tool. Corbett-lite.
