Updated: Romney & Santorum to Meet in Pittsburgh Friday

Update: Romney will be visiting a Pittsburgh area factory while he’s in the area. He’ll meet with supporters at noon at Sauereisen, a company that manufactures corrosion-resistant construction materials. The business is located across the Allegheny River in Fox Chapel.

Newt Gingrich is out of the race, and GOP eyes are set on the fall. A big step toward Republican unity will reportedly happen Friday, when former contender Rick Santorum and presumptive nominee Mitt Romney meet in Pittsburgh.

The news was broken by Salena Zito of the Tribune Review:

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former Pennsylvania U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum will meet in Pittsburgh on Friday, the first time they’ve met since Santorum suspended his Republican presidential campaign April 10 in Gettysburg, a source close to the campaign confirmed today.

The meeting will take place in Santorum’s hometown at an undisclosed location Friday morning; sources close to the campaign confirm they expect a number of topics to be discussed, including Santorum’s possible endorsement of Romney.

And Jim O’Toole of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette notes that Santorum’s list of requests is unlikely to be too long.

In a National Review interview earlier this week, John Brabender, Mr. Santorum’s longtime advisor, said that the former senator will “not be walking in there with a list of 20 demands.”

“I highly doubt that a convention speaking slot will be discussed on Friday,” Mr. Brabender told NR’s Robert Costa. “But from a consultant perspective, it’s clear that Rick fired up the base in state after state. He kept winning, even after he was ignored by the party hierarchy. It would be a logical benefit for the Romney people to have Rick play a major role at the convention.”

  1. Trying to define Romney is impossible. He is as changeable as the wind. The one constant with him is that he can be relied on to give business all of the breaks in the world regardless of the consequences.
By the way, why does he have a Swiss bank account?

  2. I wonder what hotel Santorum will stay at while he’s in the state? Probably wherever he used to stay when he’d visit us as our Senator from his home in Virginia.
