Sabato’s Crystal Ball & Cook Political Report Shift PA-15 After Dent’s Retirement

Congressman Charlie Dent’s (R-Lehigh) retirement may open a door for Democrats to pick up a seat in Pennsylvania according to Sabato’s Crystal Ball, the Cook Political Report and Inside Elections.

Crystal Ball’s managing editor Kyle Kondik tweeted out a shift in the ranking for the 15th district from ‘likely Republican’ to ‘lean Republican.’

Cook Political Report saw Dent’s retirement as a chance for a Democratic pickup.

“For now, we are moving PA-15 from Solid Republican to Lean Republican,” the Political Report said.

The Report points out that if Democrats run the right candidate for the district, or Republicans run the wrong candidate the district could become very competitive.

Update: Inside Elections also shifted its ranking of the seat from ‘solid Republican’ to ‘lean Republican.”

“Dent’s 15th District isn’t as Democratic—Donald Trump carried it 52-44 percent in 2016 and Mitt Romney won it by 3 points in 2012—but sources in the Keystone State admit it could be a difficult hold depending on the nominees and national political climate. The congressman’s reputation as a moderate made the announcement more dramatic than the partisanship of the district,” Inside Elections noted in its update.

  1. I think for i have 3 potential candidates and who should run for congress and they are 1. Democrat Former Bethlehem’s Mayor, 2013 Northampton County Executive Nominee, and 2010 Congressional Nominee John Callahan, 2. Republican Incumbent Northampton County Executive and 2016 State Auditor Nominee John Brown, 3. Democrat Incumbent Northampton County District Attorney and 2016 Attorney General Candidate John Morganelli should be the candidates is to run for congress in 2018 because for they can fix Washington, D.C. and creating new jobs and bring them to Pennsylvania.

  2. Believe it or not, Mark Singel lives in the Lebanon portion of the 15th. He moved there when his wife was hired as a Harrisburg lobbyist over a decade ago. Singel served as a delegate from the district to the Democratic Convention of 2016. Will he run if urged?
