Saccone Launches 2018 US Senate Bid

sacconeState Representative Rick Saccone (R-Allegheny) has confirmed he will run for U.S. Senate in 2018.  He filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission and said will kick off his campaign in late February.

“The values of the people of Pennsylvania are my values, and are the values that got Trump elected in Pennsylvania,” Saccone told PoliticsPA.

Saccone said he is not running for the Senate simply as a State Rep, but as the culmination of all of his life experiences.

“I am running as lots of different things, I am retired from the Armed Services, I have written nine books, I am a foreign policy expert, among many other things,” Saccone said.

Saccone served in the Air Force for over ten years.  He remained in South Korea after his retirement from the Air Force to host an english language newscast.

Saccone also holds a Ph.D. and has taught classes at Saint Vincent College.

Elected in 2010, he has established a reputation as one of the most conservative members of the state House. Statewide, he is best known for legislation that would require schools to display “In God We Trust,” and for a resolution to name 2012 “The Year of the Bible” in Pa.

According to a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette profile from 2010:

After he retired from the Air Force, Mr. Saccone spent time in both North and South Korea in a number of capacities.

He worked as a news anchor for an English-language TV station, he wrote for Seoul newspapers, he taught English at Korean institutes, and he held international business positions with American and Korean companies.

During President Bill Clinton’s administration, he represented an international organization in North Korea that was building nuclear power plants as part of a $5 billion project.

He said he gained invaluable diplomatic and negotiating experience as an American living in North Korea at the time, which led him to write two books — “Living with the Enemy: Inside North Korea” and “Negotiating with North Korea.”

  1. Casey has only his name to run on. He is not anti-abortion like his father was. Has Casey refused a pension in the senate? Rick Saccone did. I live in his district and he is a go getter. He isn’t in this for “him”, he is in it for the people. He hears what his constituents have to say and is doing all he can to lower taxes here, but the “establishment” in Harrisburg fights him every step of the way. He is a hunter and is pro 2nd amendment. We need more people like him in government and kick the deadbeats out. He can beat Casey and hopefully will !

  2. Saccone is no friend of sportsmen and should not be a candidate for senate in our great state. He is responsible for killing the 2016 PGC funding bill. Saccone led a minority group of idiot republican reps to kill the bill. His motivation was to force the PGC to adopt his proposed regulation changes. Something he was unable to do via normal politics or negotiation. The end result is a financially strapped PGC and the loss of 80 jobs in the PGC and the closing of 2 pheasant farms. There will be additional economic and negative fall out in 2017 as a result. What is really amazing is that Saccone is not a hunter and has no knowledge of hunting. He is led around by the nose by FOAC. FOAC and Saccone do not respect or understand the culture and traditions of hunting in our our state and FOAC has a warped perspective of the issues. Saccone is trying to jump on Trumps coat tails. It is hard to phantom that the GOP is that ignorant of the dirty , mean and nasty politics that are tied to him. However, who knows what goes on behind closed door where dastardly deals are struck. If you think Saccone is a good senate candidate, contact me as I have a bridge to sell. Maybe you already think you own it but I can sell it to you again!!

  3. Probably the stupidest man I’ve heard making a campaign speech. What bible college did get get his Phd from? Ten books, all self-published and sold 100 copies each to some evangelical church fund.

  4. I would like to hear Rep. Saccone talk more about how alike he and Pres. Trump are, preferably on camera. Rep. Saccone should have a televised news conference where he looks into the camera and says, “I think I am a lot like Donald Trump; we agree on the issues.”

  5. Rick Saccone may well be able to motivate the Trump voters outside southeast Pennsylvania in this off-year election. Let us see if President Trump campaigns for Rick Saccone. I have not met him but people I know think he is solid.

  6. I need to know more about Rick Saccone , but if he Is a conservative ,.than I think I can support him. Senator Casey is a complete stooge and wrong on all issues. I will be looking forword to supporting Rick .

  7. I am one Union member and Life-long Democrat that’s going to vote for anyone who runs against Casey. I say VOTE OUT ALL INCUMBENTS..

  8. Hmmm. He’d probably be a pretty good Senator, and an asset to that august group. Sadly, it’s unlikely he’ll ever get there.

The problem is, he doesn’t seem to be made of the stuff that is needed to beat Casey in 2018. And that election is likely to be bitterly fought and downright ugly, and likely very ugly here in PA.

Republicans should hope they get a strong challenger. Casey will prove much harder to beat than most observers seem to realize.

  9. quite possibly a bigger joke of a candidate than Kathleen McGinty. LOL JK no one is as big of a joke as her, not even slick rick saccone.

  10. that way is I can keep my 2 family members are named after the first names of the current Pennsylvania’s US Senators in 2018 of having Bob and Pat there together.

  11. I will be supporting Bob Casey for his reelection bid in 2018 because I know of he’s going to win this thing by then.

  12. What a complete stooge. “I believe in the constitution! I believe Christian prayer should be part of the public school curriculum!”
