Saccone Suspends Senate Campaign, Enters Race to Replace Murphy

sacconeState Rep. Rick Saccone (R-Allegheny) announced he is suspending his campaign for U.S. Senate to enter the race to replace Congressman Tim Murphy (R-Allegheny) in the special election.

“I know this area well and have worked with community members on various projects from each county. They trust me and want me to restore dignity and honor to this Office,” Saccone said according to KDKA.

Saccone had been running to challenge Senator Bob Casey next year.

The special election will be scheduled by Governor Tom Wolf within 10 days after Murphy officially resigns on October 21st.  The date must be at least 60 days after the announcement.

The candidates will be chosen by the political parties through their own internal processes.  The Republicans will use a conferee process of local activists with the numbers of from each of the counties determined by the number of votes for President Trump in 2016.  Local Democrats will make a suggestion to the state party’s executive committee, who will choose the candidate.

State Senators Guy Reschenthaler (R-Allegheny) and Kim Ward (R-Westmoreland) have both announced for the race.

  1. He is a good Christian and Christians believe there are three persons in one God. Maybe the Holy Trinity was having an existential crisis about his political future.

  2. Saccone is a hypocritical opportunist who claims the imaginary voices he hears give him career advice. Zero chance of winning.

  3. Just what we need, another freedom caucus do nothing. Can we please send someone to Congress that will actually propose a viable solution rather than simply objecting to everything? Saccone would be a nightmare. Im for Guy. Best of the group so far.

  4. that’s great for he’s in but i still want former governor Tom Corbett is to run for soon to be tim murphy’s vancant seat in congress because for he is the only republican and who can hold on to the seat in the special election and the general election.

  5. So let me get this straight. You’ve done such a top notch job screwing up Harrisburg, haven’t passed a viable revenue plan but you are so driven to somehow get into the DC swamp that you first plan to run for US Senate, but now see a better opportunity in staying closer to home and run for a now open seat in the US House of Representative. Boy, I really hope the voters in Congressional district realize all 3 of these Harrisburg politicians are just opportunists that want to pad their egos and pocketbooks even more by getting to DC.

  6. this guy has been running for 3 offices at the same time. He’s been telling people God asked him to run for Senate. What happened?

  7. Suspends senate campaign? There was a campaign? No one noticed. No one will notice his house campaign either.
