Santorum Nixes Trump CoS Chatter

With the news that President Donald Trump’s Chief of Staff John Kelly will be resigning at the end of the year, a number of names have swirled around to take over the all important White House role.

A name that can now be crossed off of the list?

Former Republican Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum.

A Washington Post article published yesterday included Santorum as one of the contenders for the position.

“For instance, Trump aides mentioned Santorum as a contender after he was spotted with the president at Saturday’s Army-Navy football game in Philadelphia. They noted Santorum’s political skills and populist conservative ideology could make him a contender,” the Washington Post reported.

During an interview with CNN’s Erin Burnett, Santorum stated that it’s a great job and an “honor even to be considered,” but that his family situation doesn’t allow him to take on the job right now.

“The bottom line for me is just really like Nick Ayers my family situation really doesn’t allow me to do that right now,” Santorum says in the CNN interview. “I would again be honored to do it at some point in time maybe, but at this point it just doesn’t fit for me and my family and so I guess the answer right now would be no.”

According to the Washington Post, Trump found himself in a “predicament” after Nick Ayers, Vice President Mike Pence’s Chief of Staff, turned down the role. Their reporting states Trump is “frustrated by news coverage depicting his White House as a place where talented people do not want to work.”

Trump fired back at these reports in a tweet yesterday morning saying that “many, over ten” are pushing to take on the position.

  1. Can Pennsylvania please forget about this guy? He hasn’t lived here since halfway through his first term in the Senate.

    1. I was also wondering why Politics *PA* was reporting on a Virginian inserting himself into this discussion. I suppose Santorum would at least enjoy a relatively short commute if he were ultimately to take the job.

  2. I am to be offering my skills to be the position of chiefs of the staff for this amazing PRESIDENT

  3. Santorum would probably rather be Pence’s Chief of Staff.

They could take long showers together and discuss the “merits” of gay conversion therapy.

  4. If Santorum has such good “political skills”, why is he not still in Senate??? Because he is an ass who stupidly believes in stupid and hurtful policies. Oh well then, he’d fit right in with Trump.
