Schroder Praises Long-Awaited Return of Trauma Services to Chester County
HARRISBURG – Rep. Curt Schroder (R-East Brandywine) joined officials of Paoli Hospital this morning to celebrate the return of trauma services to Chester County after a nearly decade-long absence.
Schroder authored the Trauma Systems Stabilization Act, which provides funding to Trauma Centers to help with certain costs, and allows for Level III trauma centers in under-served areas of the state. Schroder has been a strong advocate for the return of trauma services to Chester County since its last trauma center closed in 2002. Today’s official opening of Paoli Hospital’s Regional Trauma Center brings to 33 the number of trauma centers serving the citizens of Pennsylvania.
“Treatment in the first hour is critical when it comes to saving lives or minimizing the damaging effects of trauma, and for more than eight years, Chester County has been without those crucial services,” said Schroder. “I commend Mainline Health System and Paoli Hospital in partnership with Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and Jefferson University Physicians for bringing trauma care back to Chester County.”
“I participated in the Chester County Trauma Center Initiative, which sought to inform the public about trauma services and what it would take to restore those services to Chester County. I am grateful for the public support that the initiative has received, and today we have a first rate trauma center that is here to treat some of the most life-threatening injuries.
“When it comes to trauma, time is of the essence. This center will cut down on transport time and enable specially-trained medical professionals to more quickly administer care to accident and other trauma victims,” said Schroder. “I am pleased that these important life-saving trauma services have been restored and are now available to the citizens of Chester County.”
