Scott Rules Out Run For PA10

A rematch is not in the cards in 2020.

George Scott, the Democratic candidate in Pennsylvania’s 10th Congressional District in 2018, announced today that he will not run for the Democratic Party nomination for Congress next year.

In his announcement, he thanked his supporters for their calls of encouragement to run against Rep. Scott Perry (R-York) in 2020, but decided it was best to stay out of this race and support whoever the Democratic nominee will be.

“In considering whether to run again next year, I consulted a variety of people, talked it over with my family, and of course prayed over the decision,” Scott said in the email announcement. “After reviewing all the factors and variables, I have decided to not run for Congress in 2020. I am confident that a strong candidate will emerge to defeat Scott Perry, and I will support him or her wholeheartedly.”

Scott lost to Perry by just over 2.5 points in the newly drawn district with boundaries that voted for President Donald Trump by 10 points in 2016. It was Perry’s closest election victory since being voted into Congress in 2012 in the old conservative 4th District.

Scott’s announcement included that he remains committed to being involved in the community and remains “open to other ways to serve people.”

At least two other Democrats thus far have reportedly expressed interest in seeking the nomination for the 10th District.

Earlier this week, the National Journal reported that Auditor General Eugene DePasquale is going to officially join the race in early July. DePasquale told PoliticsPA in March that he wanted to continue his public service beyond his current term and particularly focused on reform in Washington D.C.

In 2016, President Donald Trump and Perry both carried the boundaries of the 10th District by roughly double digits over Sec. Hillary Clinton and Katie McGinty, while DePasquale narrowly edged out GOP AG candidate John Brown in the newly drawn district boundaries.

Tom Brier, an attorney and author, announced his candidacy for the seat a couple of months ago as well.

The DCCC has listed the 10th District as one of three seats the party is hoping to flip in 2020.

  1. Lost my support when he started praying over his decision. God hasnothing to do with govt. Trump proves that. LOL

  2. George Scott is a good man , a fellow Veteran and a member of the PADEMS Veteran’s Caucus.

  3. Good, because DePasquale will wipe the floor with corrupt, tea party, coporate Scott Perry.

  4. i’m guessing for George scott will be endorsing the Incumbent State Auditor for congress in 2020.

    1. That’s exactly how that statement reads. “I do not want to run against Gene DePasquale, and I fully intend to endorse him the minute he gets into the race.”

I wonder if George will run for state senate? Where does he live?
