SD-19: Comitta Announces Reelection Bid

Carolyn Comitta

Calling Chester County “the best place to live, work, and raise a family,” state Sen. Carolyn Comitta (D-Chester) announced her intent to run for reelection to the 19th State Senatorial District seat.

“From our world-class schools to our thriving downtown centers to our majestic natural landscapes, Chester County is the best place to live, work, and raise a family,” Comitta said. “I am running to continue our work to build safe, healthy, vibrant, and prosperous communities for our children and grandchildren to call home.”

The minority chair of the Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee, Comitta also emphasized the need to create a more sustainable Pennsylvania by cutting our emissions, transitioning to renewables, and building a climate-resilient infrastructure.

“While we are already making strides to be cleaner and greener in Pennsylvania, there is still a lot of work ahead, especially in addressing the climate crisis,” Comitta added. “We need to invest in our clean energy economy, find innovative solutions to reduce carbon emissions, and empower the people and communities most impacted by a clean energy transition.”

The 71-year-old Comitta also emphasized that one of her priorities is protecting and safeguarding access to abortion and reproductive healthcare for all Pennsylvanians.

“In the wake of the Dobbs decision, we have witnessed a nationwide effort to restrict access to reproductive care and prevent women from making their own healthcare choices,” Comitta said. “As state Senator, I am fighting to keep abortion safe and legal in Pennsylvania and maintain reproductive freedom for all.

“Chester County is home to some of the best public schools not only in Pennsylvania but in the entire country,” said Comitta, a former educator in the Octorara Area School District who serves on the Senate Education Committee. “Our local schools show the strength and potential of a fully-funded public education system, and we must continue to make those investments to support our economic growth and the future.”

Comitta served two terms in the Pennsylvania State House before earning election to the state Senate in 2020, defeating Kevin Runey by 14 points. The seat has been in Democratic hands since 2004 when Andy Dinniman won the first of four terms.

Serving as Comitta’s Honorary Campaign Chair is former West Chester Mayor Dr. Clifford E. DeBaptiste.
