After winning a special election last January, Sen. Lynda Schlegel Culver (R- Columbia/Luzerne/Montour/Northumberland/ Snyder) is ready to stand for re-election and a full term in the 27th state senatorial district.

A lifelong resident of Sunbury, Culver, 54, said in a campaign announcement that representing the 27th District has been a honor.

“My life has been dedicated to the service of others, and I am eager to continue my work as the voice of the greater Susquehanna Valley, and NEPA in the Pennsylvania State Senate,” said Culver. “In Harrisburg, I am focused on issues that promote and support the future growth of our region and the Commonwealth, instead of increasing the size and reach of government or the influence of special interests.

“As a problem-solving conservative, I am focused on solutions that will grow the paychecks of Pennsylvania families, bring down the cost of basic necessities, and provide greater opportunities for our families, communities and small businesses to thrive. We have accomplished much already during my short time in the State Senate, and I know with your continued support, we can accomplish much more together.”

Culver defeated Democrat Patricia Lawton in a special election, 69-31, in a predominantly Republican district.

Prior to her election to the Senate, Culver served seven terms in the State House after spending more than 20 years as the district office manager in the office of former state Rep. Merle Phillips.

A graduate of Bloomsburg University with a degree in political science, Culver and her husband, Tom, live in Rockefeller Township and have one son.
