SD-32: Pat Stefano Attacks Deb Kula on Per Diems in Latest Ad (VIDEO)

Pat Stefano, the Republican nominee in the 32nd Senate District, released his second ad of the campaign, this time attacking opponent Deb Kula.

The spot, “Entitled”, asserts that Kula believes she is entitled to our tax dollars through per diems, and that the cost of them has been close to $117,000.

The commercial is based off a meeting Kula had with the Herald Standard Editorial Board during the primary campaign.

When asked about per diems, Kula said, “I have taken per diems since I have been in the House of Representatives.” She continued, “I take those per diems, which is under the rules of the House, I am entitled to.” In addition, Kula said she has “no problem with that”, referring to using the per diems when the House is in session.

Pat Stefano’s ad also mentions that taxpayers pay $544 a month for Kula’s car, and that they will pay for her “cadillac pension” for life.

“We’re entitled to a Senator like Pat Stefano”, the narrator says. “He’ll refuse the pension, per diem, and car.”

Update: The Kula campaign has already released a response ad:

  1. Nothing at all wrong with attaching proper documentation for expense reimbursement. I’m all in favor of that. But this is a change the system issue and create a new policy for everyone. This isn’t a topic that you base an election platform on.
If this is an important seat, wouldn’t it behoove the candidate to have a meaningful proposal for reform? Stefano hasn’t even suggested per diem reform. Again, such a small issue to spend any time on. He just comes off as a lightweight candidate without substance.

  2. Just because per diems are legal doesn’t mean they are right.

What is so wrong with requiring a receipt be attached to the reimbursement. This way if you spent 110 at a hotel you spend 110 at the hotel. Not some blanket amount of 163 a day.

We have Senators like Tim Solobay using his per diems to buy a house in Harrisburg. You in theory could have representatives living in apartments with each other or sharing hotel rooms or staying with family members. They still are eligible for the per diem without a receipt.

  3. Is he independently wealthy? No car. No pension. No per diem. I’d get that down on paper!
Stefano’s whole campaign seems to be based on these three points. Has anyone, anywhere heard anything salient beyond standard rhetoric?

The bold number he quotes as what Kula ‘took’ breaks down to about $16,000 a year. Really? I’m in the private sector and if I could put an employee on the road for $16K a year, I’d be pretty happy.

Point is, Kula didn’t do anything wrong. Unless I’m missing something, all her reimbursement was both done in according to the rules in place and is legal.

Certainly not a Kula fan, but if this race is so important………

  4. TO THE PERSON WHO ASK WHY KULA HASNT REFORMED ANYTHING FOR 20M YEARS– FIRST SHE HAS BEEN IN Harrisburg FOR A COUPLE OF TERMS –NOT 20 YEARS –AND IN HER TENURE
CORBET AND THE REPUBLICAN CONTROLLED HOUSE AND SENATE HAS BEEN IN CHARGE HER ENTIRE TENURE

CONNECT THE DOTS — ITS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE – AND WHY DONT YOU POST YOU PICTURE SO WE CAN SEE HOW GREAT YOU LOOK !!!LOL

  6. Would love to see the buys for these ads. I’ve seen Stefano’s non stop. Kula’s? Not so much.

Would also like to ask Kula how she can possibly tie Stefano to Corbett when he’s never run for office before but that would imply that she has an ounce of ethics and honesty in her.

We see her parroting the billion dollar education lie and taking the god awful per diems… I’m glad we won’t have to look at that mug for too much longer on PCN.

  7. Kula looks half a step away from a nursing home. Even w all the make up she still looks old. She says she wants to reform Harrisburg what why hasn’t she done that in the last 20 years she’s been in government?

  8. You are at least three weeks behind on this stupid story. She has been responding with her own defensive add for over two weeks. Politics Pa has really gone down hill and just takes whatever some GOP operative feeds them every day. Too bad. Used to be worth reading all the time.
