SD-37: Reschenthaler Sworn Into Office

Guy ReschenthalerThe State Senate is whole again.

The upper chamber has all fifty districts represented.

Guy Reschenthaler, of the 37th district, was sworn in this afternoon. Sen. Reschenthaler is the 31st Senator in the GOP’s majority caucus. The oath was administered by U.S. Circuit Judge D. Michael Fisher, who represented the 37th from 1981 to 1996.

“I’m honored and excited to take on this new challenge and be a responsive, accountable and tireless advocate for our community,” Reschenthaler said. “People have told me that they expect government to work for them and they don’t want gridlock or business as usual.  I want to bring change and a fresh perspective to this position while pushing for lower taxes, less government and greater fiscal restraint.”

“I congratulate Senator Reschenthaler on being selected by voters of the 37th Senatorial District to be their voice in Harrisburg,” stated Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati. “I am confident that Senator Reschenthaler will bring insightful perspective and good vision to the table as we continue to work toward a fiscally responsible budget agreement, as well as the many challenging issues facing our Commonwealth.”

“Senator Reschenthaler’s background as a district justice and his service to this nation in the military are two qualities that distinguish him and will be a major asset here in the Senate,” Senate Majority Leader Jake Corman said. “His commitment to reforming our pension systems, improving educational opportunities and fighting for senior citizens will make him a strong and active advocate for his district.”

Reschenthaler defeated his Democratic opponent Heather Arnet in a special election on November 3rd.

  1. I hope my Senators, Feinstein and Boxer, will surprise me by both vonitg to support S. 1082. I called both offices late on Friday, May 4, and Feinstein’s office said she was still taking voter’s views into consideration. Boxer’s L.A. office said they didn’t know her position on the bill. I told them my family has been destroyed by the lack of quality and reliability of prescription thyroid-replacement drugs since 1982, when the FDA and drug co’s seemed to stop caring about such matters. Both Senators have ignored my requests for help regarding this issue in the past; I hope they will try to at least do the right thing this time around by vonitg Yes on S. 1082.

  2. The vote was 24-24 with LG Stack breaking the tie by voting “nay.” Had Guy been there, and the 50th senator not been, the vote would have been 25-24 in favor, LG Stack could not vote, and the measure would have been adopted. So, yes, the defeat of the property tax bill was a Corman special.

  3. When the Senate has a full compliment, you need 26 votes to pass something. So even with Guy there they would be 1 short

  4. I smell, Corman opposed the property tax language so he set it up to fail by running it yesterday.

  5. So wait a minute….the elimination of property tax bill comes up last night and loses by 1 vote and a new Republican Senator gets sworn in today??????????????? Are you telling me that all those YES votes didn’t know the new republican was a YES vote?? The hypocrites that supported this bill just wanted to able to tell the property tax folks that they supported them! The oldest trick in the book and a very transparent one.
