SD-40: Scavello Pursues Aurand Backer Accused of Stealing Campaign Signs

ScavelloSort of fast, not quite furious.

According to the Pocono Record, Republican candidate for the newly formed 40th State Senate District Mario Scavello, tailed a supporter of his opponent for 20 miles over her alleged involvement in the stealing of campaign signs

Carol Nevil, a 74 year old supporter of Democratic Party candidate Mark Aurand, says she felt threatened by the pursuit which started from Scavello’s office in Tannersville to East Stroudsburg.

“My blood pressure, who knows what it was,” Nevil said. “The scary part was that he followed me all the way down.”

The chase ended 10 miles later, close to her home when she was pulled over by Stroudsburg Area Regional Police Officers. Officers stated they had received a complaint about the thievery of campaign signs. The description of the vehicle the police received matched Nevil’s son’s truck, which she was driving at the time.

The Police for their part found nothing and pressed no charges. Scavello maintains he had relevant information that Nevil stole the signs, based on a call to his campaign office that morning. The caller described an elderly woman in a sandy-colored GMC stealing Scavello signs along North Fifth Street in Stroudsburg.

A campaign staffer then notified the Republican that he spotted the same car from the description in the back parking lot of Scavello’s office building. “He said, ‘The car that lady called on is in the back parking lot. That identical car,” Scavello stated.

Scavello believes Nevil dumped the stolen signs before she arrived behind his office. He was trying to making stand against the alleged thievery that has claimed 300-400 of his signs.

“I’m just looking for them to stop,” Scavello declared. “I think it’s ridiculous they do it to begin with.”

In an example of his steadfast belief of Nevil’s guilt, Scavello pledge $500 to the charity of Nevil’s choice, should she take a polygraph test.

In response, Nevil said, “”If he wants me to take a polygraph test, he should go into anger management.”

  1. Scario chased an elderly grandmother for 10 miles before falsely accusing her of stealing a campaign sign. Wow.

  2. It may interest your readers to know that the alleged sign stealer was parked behind Scavello’s office because she was getting a haircut in the beauty salon next door!

  3. The police should have issued Scavello a ticket for the false accusation and harassment.
