SD41: Boser Selected as Dem Candidate

Last night, Democratic committee members convened in West Kittanning to select their nominee for the state’s 41st Senatorial District.

Susan Boser, a professor at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, bested Tony DeLoreto, an Indiana County businessman, for the nomination for the upcoming special election. Boser received 69 votes to DeLoreto’s 35 according to the Indiana Gazette.

In late January, state Sen. Don White (R-Indiana) announced that he would be retiring from the seat at the end of February. White represented the district since 2001.

“I care deeply about the critical needs facing these counties, and have spent most of my career finding solutions to meet those needs,” Boser said last night according to the Indiana Gazette. ”We need to have leaders in the Legislature that will fight for reform. I am that person.”

Prior to Boser’s current role of teaching public policy at IUP, she spent 2 decades helping rural families in crisis through work in human services and also as a drug and alcohol treatment professional. Boser received her Ph.D. in Human Services Policy at Cornell University in 2001 and later led a project that received an award from a GOP Governor’s office for her work to find a way to put funding under local control for services that better fit rural areas.

During her campaign release, she placed a specific emphasis on helping families in rural communities.

This is her second run for elected office. She ran as the Democratic candidate for Pennsylvania’s 15th Congressional District last year, but lost to Rep. G.T. Thompson (R-Centre) by a lengthy margin in the GOP friendly district.

The GOP is set to meet on Thursday evening to select their candidate according to the Indiana Gazette. Joe Pittman, White’s former chief of staff, George Karpacs, and Ross G. Walker III, a New Kensington funeral director and chairman of the board of supervisors in Upper Burrell Township are seeking the Republican nomination.

The special election will take place on May 21, the same day as the Pennsylvania primary.

  1. This seems to be a political Hail Mary like the Doug Flutie Boston College pass to win in the 1980’s. The good news is there is no downside. You lose back to being a professor and you win and your in the State Senate. Good luck!

  2. Bad choice here Democrats of choosing this slub as the Democratic Nominee because she will lost this seat to me very easily in 2019 special election is to get me in the Majority
