Seth Williams to Endorse Murphy for AG

By Keegan Gibson, Managing Editor

Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams will endorse Patrick Murphy for Attorney General today, PoliticsPA has learned.

A source close to the campaign says that Williams, a popular Philly figure, will endorse Murphy in large part for his efforts to aid local law enforcement while serving in Congress.

It’s interesting news given the preliminary primary field Murphy faces. Two of the three other Democrats who have declared or are considering a run are Philly natives, meaning endorsements there will be in high demand.

Two other Democrats have so far announced for AG: Dan McCaffery, who finished second to Seth Williams in Philadelphia’s 2009 District Attorney race; and Kathleen Granahan Kane, a northeast PA prosecutor. Former Philadelphia District Attorney Lynne Abraham has also said she is considering a run.

Williams unsuccessfully challenged Abraham in 2005.

A number of PA’s Democratic politicos, including Allegheny County Executive and former gubernatorial candidate Dan Onorato as well as Reps. Chaka Fattah and Tim Holden, have also endorsed Murphy.

Murphy taught law at West Point, served as Special Assistant U.S. Attorney, and prosecuted accused terrorists while serving in Iraq. He was elected to Congress in 2006, defeating Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick.

In January, after losing to Fitzpatrick by seven points, Murphy joined Philly-area law firm Fox-Rothschild. He also teaches at Widener Law.

  1. Patrick Murphy falls right in with George Soros’ plan to place as many hand-picked AGs as possible throughout the U.S. We should not forget it is the AG who has the final say in election disputes, as Al Franken can attest.

Williams, Fattah, and Holden endorsing Murphy is the kiss of death to his campaign. Combined, there is not one ounce of ethics that can be squeezed out of them.

  2. Murphy would be a poor statewide candidate. If he was too liberal for Bucks County, then he’s certainly too liberal for PA. Democrats should nominate a more centrist candidate if they want to win.

  3. It’s amazing to me just how highly Patrick Murphy thinks of himself! He’s not bright or articulate. (He’s a Widener grad, which is basically a step up from junior college.) He never even was an asst DA but now he thinks he should be the state AG?!?! Are you kidding me?

  4. Haven’t the voters of PA had enough liberalism? The voters of Bucks County did and voted Patrick Murphy out of US Congress. Patrick Murphy voted in virtual lock step with Obama..just check Murphy’s voting record. If elected, he will become another lap dog of Eric Holder’s oppressive liberal policies.

    1) If you want a PA Attorney General who is soft on crime – vote Murphy.

    2) If you want a PA Attorney General who will follow Obama’s lead on granting illegals the same rights as US citizens – Murphy is your man.

    3) If you want a PA Attorney General who will help undermine the 2nd amendment – Vote Murphy into office.

    4) If you think the answer to better health care is Obama Care – Murphy will be the best friend Obama, Holder and liberal’s in Congress could have.
