Shapiro Touts Pittsburgh Endorsements

Josh ShapiroJosh Shapiro is seeking to cross the geographical divide.

The Montgomery County Commissioner today announced the support of three prominent officials from Pittsburgh: former Allegheny County Coroner Cyril Wecht, State Representative Dan Frankel, and Pittsburgh City Councilman Dan Gilman.

“Josh Shapiro has a record of reform and a history of standing up for progressive Democratic values,” said Cyril Wecht. “He’s taken on Wall Street money managers to protect taxpayers and ran Pennsylvania’s third-largest county, where he’s cleaned up a fiscal mess and worked to expand civil rights. I’m proud to be for him, because he’ll always be for hardworking Pennsylvanians.”

“Josh Shapiro will be an Attorney General who stands up for progressive values to protect the environment, be a watchdog for consumers, and he’ll never be afraid to stand up to big, powerful interests on behalf of working Pennsylvanians,” State Rep. Dan Frankel added.

“Throughout his life, Josh Shapiro has been a reformer who helped pass the strongest ethics law in generations,” stated Councilman Dan Gilman. “Josh will be an Attorney General who will hold public officials to the highest level of integrity while reforming and modernizing the office so it’s an advocate for people.”

“I’m honored and extremely grateful to have the endorsements of Cyril Wecht, Dan Frankel, and Dan Gilman,” Josh Shapiro responded. “These progressive leaders have spent their lives standing up for what’s right, and always putting the interests of people first; they understand that we need a reformer as our next Attorney General.”

Shapiro’s chief opponent is Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala so this show of Pittsburgh support is an attempt to dismiss the east vs. west narrative of the contest.

Northampton DA John Morganelli is also running in the Democratic primary while Kathleen Kane insists at the moment that she will seek re-election.

  1. marshak – My understanding is that Zappala has never prosecuted a case in his life. Your candidate was a prosecutor for a cup of coffee a long time ago.

  2. Shapiro has never prosecuted a case in his life. And he’s still infinitely more qualified for the job than Kathleen Kane.

  3. @Josh Guy. Really? Other than these three who is supporting Josh West of Harrisburg? I’m curious. If Philadelphia goes with Zappala, how does Josh win ?

  4. I love these little endorsement games. Three has-been outcasts from the Allegheny scene. What a joke.

  5. Terrific endorsements. I particularly like how Cyril picked Frankel’s little schmeckel out of Charlie Z’s pocket. It must have been pretty cramped in there since Charlie added Fitzgerald’s shriveled stugots.
