State Representative Justin Simmons (R-Lehigh) is reportedly considering a primary challenge of Congressman Charlie Dent (R-Lehigh) next year.
In an interview with WFMZ, Simmons explained why he is considering a challenge against Dent.
“Frankly, I have had enough of Charlie Dent attacking Republican policies and continuing his support of Obama’s failed policies. That’s why I’m moving strongly in this direction. Republican deserve a new voice in Congress,” Simmons said in the interview.
Simmons is serving his fourth term in the state House. He made headlines in 2016 when he ran for and won another term after promising in 2010 to serve only three terms.
Simmons had previously considered a run for Lieutenant Governor.
Dent is currently serving his sixth term in Congress, after winning an open primary in 2004 with 51.5% of the vote. Dent’s only primary challenge came during the 2010 Tea Party wave, where he defeated the challenger by 66 points.
Update: Dent responded to the Simmons’ statements by reiterating his focus on his job and the challenges Congress faces in the coming months.
“My focus remains solely on serving the people of the 15th District and making sure the important governance work we are facing in Congress gets done. We will confront many important challenges in Congress over the course of September including not defaulting on our nation’s obligations, providing disaster assistance to the people of Texas and preventing a government shutdown. These are the issues of concern that have my attention at this point in time,” Dent said in an email.

I am seriously sitting back and laughing my ass off watching this.
The establishment and swamp had a plan in place and had no idea hurricane Simmons was going to blow it up.
The plan was Dent was going to retire after the November election bc he can’t win the primary. In the meantime, this Marty Northstein clown is thinking about running to keep Simmons out. November comes and Dent retires and suddenly Marty drops out and wa la, establishment prettyboy Ryan Mackenzie is the establishment chosen one.
That plan is fucked. Charlie Dent, Pat Browne and all these establishment hacks tried to completely screw Justin Simmons and fuck him over. Simmons is the one laughing now.
The only way to truly drain the swamp is to vote Justin Simmons. Ryan Mackenzie and Marty Northstein are the swamp.
Is Justin Simmons really just changing his name on here and posting under everyone’s comments? lol
Total opportunist….broke term limits pledge. Please leave the safe House seat and get your butt kicked.
Charlie broke his 7 year promise to repeal and replace Obamacare. He put up show votes when he knew it wouldn’t pass.
Ugh, sorry, I’ll take Simmons. He broke his pledge but kept voting conservative so I really could two shits.
Wrong guy. Wrong time. Simmons broke a term-limit pledge. No one in the conservative end of the district trusts him. And no one else has reason to, either.
That is absolute fucking bullshit. He won his primary 80-20. His primary opponent, while a complete stooge, was funded by the blue bloods at Saucon Valley and ran a funded campaign.
You have no idea what you’re talking about.
Justin, relax.
Way to keep the party together Justin. What a scumbag move.
This is hysterical. If anybody needs a course about keeping the party together it’s Charlie who has done everything to undermine the republican agenda and condemns the hayseed hicks of his party. Dent and his people are in such a bubble if this is the shit they tell themselves.
Twinkie Sean?
What the hell are you even saying? Like, this is obviously Justin Simmons replying right? All that stuff was personal and weird. Hurry Justin, delete your internet history before someone looks over your shoulder and sees.
Unless a campaigner publicly endorses our MAGA agenda, there is no chance for them in our now Trumptean Red Flyover America state!
I suppose doubling your salary looks pretty attractive, but it’s helpful to have some accomplishments to run on. Think he’ll try another “three term limit” pledge?
Anything to distract from Charlie’s bad record. I got news for you….Charlie is getting exposed
PA-15 is a moderate district that has a Dem registration edge and heavy Latino population. Simmons’ right-wing politics may play in Coopersburg and Upper Saucon, but they will get him nowhere in a race for PA-15. If Simmons were to somehow upset Dent in a GOP Primary, the DCCC and progressive groups would immediately target PA-15 in 2018.
The old 15th was moderate. The current gerrymandered one stretching from the Delaware to the Susquehanna is not. Trump won it by 8 points. Simmons will have no trouble in the general, but expect Arlen Dent (and his dungeon master) to run a sleazy negative campaign in the primary. If Trump endorses and fund raises for Simmons, Dent will be in trouble.
Justin Simmons’ Record:
1. Broken term limit pledge
2. Track record of missing work and being unaccounted for
3. Failed LG run bc no one, and I mean NO ONE, would support him (can anyone name a single person that supported that failed trial balloon?)
4. His attempt to get anti-Dent support will flop also bc it is not good enough to be the anti-, people need to actually want to support you also
BONUS: I’m sure his family will love seeing the emails, texts, and yes photos! that are already circulating amongst opposition research from his time so well spent in Harrisburg
Hey, little Mikey Beyer. Go home. We know your secret. You’re done.
Dent needs to go. Costello needs to go. Meehan needs to go. And my buddy Brian needs to come back to Cali.
They need to gooooo…baaacckkk to DC to work on tax reform.
I would hate to lose Justin as my representative in Harrisburg. Can he run for both positions?
Hey, why not. He spends his time in Harrisburg leading a second life cheating on his wife, so why couldn’t he cheat on his constituents also?
Proof?
Highly doubtful he runs. Arlen Dent is sitting on $1 million and Simmons has proven his reluctance to leave his safe state house seat. But it would be nice to vote for someone other than Charlie Specter in May.
