Add another name to the list of Democratic candidates for Pennsylvania Attorney General.

State Rep. Jared Solomon (D-Philadelphia) announced that he is seeking the Democratic nomination for the position. Current Attorney General Michelle Henry has already indicated that she will not pursue the position, after filling out the term of Gov. Josh Shapiro.

Solomon joins an ever-growing field of Democratic candidates that includes former state Auditor General Eugene DePasquale, former federal prosecutor Joe Kahn and the former head of Philadelphia’s public defense lawyers, Keir Bradford-Grey. York County District Attorney David Sunday is the lone Republican currently in the field.

“I am running for Attorney General because we need a fighter for all Pennsylvanians,” Solomon said. “With so much at stake from attacks on our fundamental freedoms to the opioid epidemic, there is nothing more important than having an Attorney General with a track record of standing up to special interests, fighting for our shared values, and making our neighborhoods safer.”

Solomon, 44, is in his fourth term in Harrisburg and serves as chair of the Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee. He was also chosen as a Democratic impeachment manager in the Republican-led effort to remove Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner from office.

He is also championing a resolution in the state House to impose term limits on Congress and the U.S. Supreme Court.

He has released a substantial list of legislative endorsements for his campaign, including House Majority Leader Matt Bradford (D-Montgomery), House Majority Whip Dan Miller (D-Allegheny), and state Sen. Christine Tartaglione (D-Philadelphia).

“I couldn’t be more honored to have the support of so many of my Democratic colleagues from across so many regions of Pennsylvania,” Solomon said. “Together we have fought to protect fundamental voting and abortion rights, take on the gun lobby, defend workers’ rights, and reform our criminal justice system. In the Attorney General’s office, I will be ready on day one to continue that work.”

Solomon was raised in Northeast Philadelphia and received a B.S. from Swarthmore College and his J.D. from Villanova Law. He and his wife, Tiffani, have a daughter.
