The news comes after Gibson published a marathon of satirical news stories for April Fools – stories that came at the expense of hours of actual work over the course of several weeks.

“You know that look. That smarmy, shit-eating little grin he gets. It’s been like that all day,” said a source close to Gibson.

The expression was especially pronounced when readers mistook the April Fools news for actual news.

“When Dan Victor at NYT tweeted about how that fake Toomey story got mistaken as fake news, that was the worst.”
