Several big Republican names in Harrisburg are throwing their support behind John Rafferty’s campaign for Attorney General.
When the race first started the State Senator won the support of the leaders in his chamber while the high-ups in the State House went with State Rep. Todd Stephens.
Last December, though, Stephens dropped out.
Now Speaker Mike Turzai, Majority Leader Dave Reed, Majority Whip Bryan Cutler and Appropriations Chair Bill Adolph are formally backing Rafferty.
“John Rafferty is one of the top supporters of law enforcement in our Commonwealth and has spent his career working to protect our citizens,” said Turzai. “As a deputy attorney general John prosecuted criminals, and as a state senator John has been a champion on criminal justice matters. John understands the role of attorney general and will help to restore integrity and public confidence to that critically important office. I applaud John Rafferty for his promise to restore high ethical standards and take politics out of the Office of Attorney General. Pennsylvania can trust John Rafferty and I am proud to support him as our next attorney general.”
“John Rafferty has been leader in the General Assembly in protecting Pennsylvania’s most vulnerable citizens,” said Reed. “He led the fight to help pass laws that protect children from sexual predators and as attorney general he will restore the public’s confidence in the office.”
“I’m honored to receive the endorsement of Speaker Turzai and the Republican leadership team in the House of Representatives,” Rafferty said. “I’ve worked alongside each of these outstanding leaders on passing laws that protect all our citizens and am proud to have their support.”
Rafferty is running against prosecutor Joe Peters in the April 26th GOP primary.

If Turzai is for this guy, I’m voting against him.
I can almost guarantee that neither will risk their government paycheck until they can comfortably replace it with a larger one. I think Stack kept his Senate seat past the inauguration and I know Pileggi kept his until he was elected as a judge.
Anyone know if Rafferty will resign his Senate seat if he’s the AG nominee? Or does he remain a Senator if he loses in November? Similar question re: Shapiro – will he resign as Montco Commissioner if he’s the nominee?
Josh is going to embarrass Rafferty.
Looks like Zappala was REALLY anxious to get a fellow Democrat out of the way:
“Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala Jr., who testified as an expert witness to the grand jury that recommended the charges against Kane”

The O knows: this lipless loser will get beat by Shapiro.
I’m also supporting John Rafferty for Attorney General for the same reasons as the House GOP Leadership is doing for him.
