Former broadcast journalist Janelle Stelson announced on Friday morning that her campaign raised more than $100,000 in the first 48 hours after the formal announcement to enter the 10th Congressional District race.

Stelson is one of six candidates vying for the Democratic nomination, along with Harrisburg city council woman and 2022 nominee Shamaine Daniels, Carlisle school board member Rick Coplen, retired Marine aviator Mike O’Brien, retired Army sergeant Bob Forbes, and political activist Gene Stilp.

O’Brien also announced a similar fund-raising total two days after his official kick-off in early September.

Incumbent Rep. Scott Perry (R-York) is the lone candidate on the Republican side. He defeated Daniels, 55-45, last November.

“I’m so honored to have received the support of so many people across the 10th who are fed up with Scott Perry and believe in our campaign,” said Stelson in a statement. “I promise I’ll work every day to make sure our district has real representation and a voice we can trust in Congress.”

“It’s a bit unexpected to get so many people stepping forward. But it’s not surprising because Scott Perry is a uniquely terrible Congressman, and I think he has real vulnerabilities that invite challengers,” said Matt Roan, chairman of the Cumberland County Democratic Committee.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has PA-10 among its “Districts In Play” list in 2024. Along with PA-01, they are competitive Republican-held or open districts across the nation that are critical battlegrounds as the DCCC works to unseat Republicans and win a Democratic House majority this cycle.

The 10th District comprises Dauphin and parts of Cumberland and York counties.
