Democratic challenger Janelle Stelson made a statement with her second quarter fundraising numbers.
The former WGAL-TV news anchor brought in nearly $1.34 million from April 1 through June 30 – a figure that doubled that total of Rep. Scott Perry (R-York) – as the two vie for the 10th Congressional District seat in Cumberland, Dauphin and York counties.
The three-term incumbent secured $623,003.44 during the three-month period, including $5,000 donations from AIPAC, the Freedom First PAC, and the National Realtors PAC, and has just shy of $790,000 in hand midway through the year.
Stelson, however, has approximately $1.2 million in the bank as she hopes to turn out the former head of the Freedom Caucus. She has received $5,000 donations from Elect Democratic Women, Emilys LIST PAC, Fair Shot PAC, IBEW PAC, Keystone America PAC and other professional union political action committees.
In a June poll from Franklin & Marshall College, Perry held a slender 45-44% advantage over Stelson. Those figures differed wildly as the survey was conducted during the hush-money trial for former President Donald Trump. Pre-verdict sampling revealed Perry with a 49-42% advantage outside of the +/-6.1% margin of error. Those polled after the verdict favored Stelson by a 47-39% count.
The race will be one of the most closely watched not only in the Commonwealth but also in the country as Republicans attempt to maintain their majority in the House.
