With the Pennsylvania State Democratic Party coming together this weekend for its endorsement meeting, Jack Stollsteimer has secured the backing of a number of key labor organizations.
The Delaware County District Attorney announced on Monday that he has received the endorsements of the Pennsylvania Building and Construction Trades Council, the Philadelphia Building Trades Council, the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters (EASRCC), and Teamsters Joint Council 53.
Robert Bair, president of the Pennsylvania Building and Construction Trades Council, praised Stollsteimer for being the first DA in Pennsylvania to successfully prosecute big construction contractors for wage theft, saying “Jack’s support for construction workers has distinguished him from among his colleagues, and saved millions for countless workers in Pennsylvania.”
“Jack’s never forgotten his working class roots,” said William Sproule, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the EASRCC. “He’s a true champion for our members, and we’re proud to support him for Attorney General. We know he’ll keep fighting to protect good union jobs in Pennsylvania.”
“My dad was a union bus driver, so I know how a good union job can support a family. That’s why I am so thankful to have received all of this incredible support from Pennsylvania’s labor community,” said Stollsteimer. “They fight for good union jobs every single day.
“When I’m Attorney General of Pennsylvania, I will make damn sure that an honest day’s work results in an honest day’s pay for PA workers,” Stollsteimer added.
Stollsteimer was the first Democrat to be elected District Attorney in Delaware County. He became an Assistant DA in Delaware County after graduating from Temple School of Law and served as an Assistant United States Attorney, where he led a gun violence task force. Stollsteimer also served as Pennsylvania’s Safe Schools Advocate, having been appointed by Governor Ed Rendell.
Other Democratic candidates for the AG position include state Rep. Jared Solomon (D-Philadelphia), former state Auditor General Eugene DePasquale, former federal prosecutor Joe Kahn and Keir Bradford-Grey, the former head of Philadelphia’s and Montgomery County’s public defense lawyers.
On the Republican side, York County District Attorney Dave Sunday and former federal prosecutor Katayoun “Kat” Copeland have announced their candidacies.
Candidates must file paperwork by Feb. 13 to appear on the April 23 primary ballot.
