Susan Wild Wins Special Election in Old 15th District

Susan Wild will get a head start from her first full term in Congress.

The Democrat narrowly edged out Republican Marty Nothstein by 760 votes in the race for the old 15th Congressional District to complete the term for Rep. Charlie Dent (R-Lehigh). Dent vacated the seat earlier this year.

Wild captured 130,353 votes to Nothstein’s 129,593, according to the Morning Call. The Libertarian Tim Silfies received 8,572 votes.

“I’m honored that voters in Pennsylvania’s 15th District have chosen for me to be their Congresswoman and finish out the term of former Congressman Charlie Dent,” Wild said in a statement. “I’m grateful for our county election officials who have been diligent and efficient to ensure that every vote is counted. I’m very happy that I can get to work almost immediately for the people of the 15th and 7th districts, rather than waiting until January. There is much work to be done, and a head start will be an advantage for our region. The work starts right now. ”

She will be sworn into Congress later this month to finish out the rest of Dent’s term before being sworn into the district she also won on Election Night.

Wild cruised to an easy victory over Nothstein on Election Night for the newly drawn 7th District, which covers a significant portion of the old 15th district.

Wild will be the second Pennsylvania Democrat sworn into Congress this month, joining fellow Democrat Mary Gay Scanlon, who was sworn in earlier this week after her special election victory in the old 7th district in the Philadelphia suburbs. Both Scanlon and Wild will go on to serve full two year terms in their new districts after the completion of this session.

  1. If he won the special and lost the General would he have been the shortest serving member of Congress?

  2. Teary-eyed Marty: But, but, but…I have a gold medal! And my pal Little Woody promised me I’d be a congressman and I could serve together with County Exevutive Scott Ott! And, did I mention, I have a gold medal…!!!

  3. This is more important than it seems. Getting seniority is a big deal and with maybe 40 new Dems coming in Susan Wild along with Cong Scanlon (who won the other special election in Pa) can get early seniority which helps them serve their constituencies better.

    1. Marty Nothstein was the worst congressional candidate I have ever seen. He didn’t know the issues, couldn’t raise money, and had a horrible ground game/campaign team that turned over a lot because of his terrible management and also the involvement of WW. Total embarrassment for Marty and everyone involved that he lost the 7th by a mile and even the old 15th by an inch. Marty (and WW who already exited the scene) should just go away and never run for political office again. Stick to cycling Marty, that is if you can even find a job in that field after the Velodrome fired you… Sad…

      1. I stopped reading once I saw “worst congressional candidate I have ever seen” that either makes you an idiot or a novice who hasn’t seen too many candidates. Was he great? no. Was he good? probably not. But worst ever? Dumb, Dumb, Dumb.
