Jim Gerlach’s congressional campaign said Friday it had received about $525,000 since he ended his gubernatorial campaign early this month, although the congressman did not specify how much of that money he has actually received.

The money could be a big boost to the incumbent Republican, who faces a challenge from businessman Steve Welch in the GOP primary. Welch had about $650,000 on hand to end last year, while Gerlach’s gubernatorial run left his federal campaign account broke.

Steve Welch hasn’t publicly announced whether he will continue to run in the 6th Congressional District now that incumbent U.S. Rep. Jim Gerlach has re-entered the race, but his indecision didn’t stop his campaign from releasing fundraising numbers that show, for now, he’s on pace to have enough money to compete against anybody.

Welch’s campaign had more than $650,000 on hand to end the fourth fundraising quarter last year, it said Wednesday in a press release. The candidate contributed another $150,000 of his personal fortune into the campaign and raised nearly $100,000 from supporters, according to the campaign.

Curt Schroder abruptly ended his congressional campaign Monday evening, issuing a two-sentence statement that said he is now only seeking to run again for his state House seat.

“Curt Schroder has ended his campaign for the 6th Congressional District,” the campaign said. “He plans to continue serving in the Pennsylvania House and will run for re-election in the 155th District.”
