Three Republicans File For Senate Primary, Casey Files for Re-Election

Republicans Lou Barletta, Jim Christiana, and Joe Vodvarka all filed nomination petitions for the U.S. Senate primary, while Democratic Senator Bob Casey filed for his third term in the Senate.

Barletta filed over 15,500 signatures for his run.  Barletta, who is endorsed by the PA GOP, filed over 100 signatures from 38 counties across the state.

“To have this much support in my first statewide campaign is truly humbling.  Our campaign is working hard to take our message directly to the voters, and I’m inspired by the energy and excitement on our side,” Barletta said.

Christiana filed 3,100 signatures from 28 counties.

“I’m proud of the grass roots support our campaign has generated.  “I look forward to taking our message of economic opportunity to every corner of the state and beating Bob Casey in November,” Christiana said.

Vodvarka, who ran as a Democrat in the last two cycles, filed as a Republican after losing in both of his last attempts.

In Barletta’s announcement of his filing totals, he claimed he filed 1,500 more signatures than Casey’s campaign and that Casey did not get signatures from Adams, Carbon, Columbia, Fulton, Indiana, Montour, Pike, Potter, Schuylkill, Snyder, Somerset, Sullivan, Warren, and Wyoming counties.

In a release today, Casey’s campaign announced they filed over 21,000 signatures, 5,500 more than Barletta.  Casey’s campaign said they filed signatures from all 67 counties, including 43 counties with over 100 signatures.

“We’re honored to have such strong grassroots support from Democrats in every corner of the commonwealth.  Between the outpouring of grassroots donations and the number of petitions we’ve collected, Pennsylvania Democrats are fired up and ready to send Bob Casey back to the Senate to continue the fight for workers, seniors, and the middle class,” Casey’s campaign manager M.E Smith said.

The candidates have until March 13th to review their opponent’s petitions and file any legal challenges to them in court.

  1. is Christiana the kim ward of us senate? doubtful. she had clout, jim doesn’t. jim you are embarrassing yourself and burning bridges.
Bobby has a glass jaw. Republicans don’t blow this.

  2. Joe Vodvarka must be living in a fantasy world. He should really seek professional help. Why would he even waste his time and money? Does he really think he could win? I don’t understand the thought process here.

  3. So did Barletta’s people send out their press release without waiting to see Casey’s supplimentals, or do they not understand what supplementals are? Either way, not impressive.

    1. There is so little sunlight between Barletta and Trump, it is only natural that we are left playing “incompetent or lying” with him too. It’s a lose-lose game, but it seems to be the Party of Trump’s way these days.

  4. Boy oh boy Republicans can’t wait to get to run on the same ticket as Lou Barletta! He’s going to contribute to a crushing defeat coming this November for down-ballot Republicans.

The GOP in Montco, Bucks, Chester, and Delaware Counties are prepared to lose most of their delegations in Harrisburg.
