TOM CORBETT TALKS ABOUT EMBRACING INNOVATION TO CREATE NEW JOBS IN PENNSYLVANIA
-Says encouraging the growth of new technologies will help revitalize our economy-
Pittsburgh – Republican candidate for governor Tom Corbett spoke about his plan to increase the amount of jobs in Pennsylvania as he toured Precision Therapeutics in Pittsburgh. The recent economy has taken a toll on many of Pennsylvania’s businesses and left thousands of people without a job. It’s a fact that hasn’t been lost on Tom Corbett and it’s something he plans to change as governor.
“The unemployment rate in Pennsylvania is at 9.2 percent, the highest since the early 1980’s,” said Corbett. “We are near the bottom in the nation in job creation and near the top in taxes. I have a vision and a plan to turn around our economy. It unleashes the power of the private sector, with companies like Precision Therapeutics leading the way.”
Precision Therapeutics is a life-science company that individualizes therapy for cancer patients. The company works to improve the outcome for people living with cancer. This innovative, emerging industry is something that Corbett believes is benefiting Pennsylvania’s economy.
“I will partner with Pennsylvania’s growing life sciences, biotech and high tech industries to continue to develop new high-paying jobs for Pennsylvanians,” said Corbett. “Through venture capital investments, enhancing the research and development tax credit and making much needed changes to our tax, regulatory and legal systems, Pennsylvania can compete with states across the country and lay a solid foundation for continued job growth.”
Corbett’s plan to revitalize Pennsylvania’s economy through innovation includes:
Make Pennsylvania a leader in developing a fiber and wireless 4G broadband network to promote economic growth.
Develop growth capital and public private partnership opportunities, including plans to incentivize research and development, grow venture capital opportunities, streamline state government operations and empower the Governor’s Action Team to assist job creators.
Build a sustainable green infrastructure to encourage cost savings and job growth.
Encourage consumer-led innovation to grow emerging companies and make Pennsylvania the state of choice for tech-savvy consumers and entrepreneurs.
Meet infrastructure needs for all industry sectors from energy to transportation to agriculture to ensure maximum job growth and economic opportunities.
“I have a vision for Pennsylvania where we are the standard of excellence that other states are measured against in business growth, agriculture, job creation, tourism, energy production and education,” said Corbett.
Precision Therapeutics was recently named one of Pittsburgh’s fastest growing companies by Pittsburgh Business Magazine. It ranked first as an industry leader in health care and third overall. It recently hired 100 new employees.
