Just over two weeks since their last virtual gathering, the Pennsylvania Republican Party is set to meet again on Wednesday.
In an email obtained by PoliticsPA, PA GOP Chairman Lawrence Tabas has called for a special meeting of the Republican State Committee of Pennsylvania for Wednesday evening at 7:30 P.M.
According to the email to state committee members, the meeting will be held virtually via Zoom and “consider the issues arising out of the impeachment and the path for our party going forward.”
The meeting comes at a time when Republicans aren’t united on how to address the second impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump.
Although the Senate ultimately voted to acquit Trump, all 50 Democrats in the Senate voted to convict Trump, while Sen. Pat Toomey was one of seven Republicans to find the former President “guilty” in this impeachment trial.
Toomey defended his vote in an op-ed in the Philadelphia Inquirer and various media appearances.
However, the fight to punish Toomey essentially began immediately after he cast the vote to convict Trump. Various GOP county committees across the commonwealth have voted to censure Toomey over the vote.
In addition to Toomey’s impeachment vote, the Pennsylvania Republican Party has also taken a registration hit in 2021. Since the January 6th riots in Washington D.C. at the U.S. Capitol, about 19,000 Republicans have left the party, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

There was no fraud. Stop perpetuating the Big Lie. There was no stolen election. The only fraudulent votes in PA were 4 cast by a relative of a dead voter all for Trump. The only fraud was Trump and the Republicans who attempted to un-Constitutionally and unlawfully wanted to overturn the Electoral College vote and the peaceful turnover of power in our Democracy. All of the lawsuits in any of the 50 states found no evidence of fraud. The former Attorney General Bill Barr found no evidence. The former head of Cyber Security for the Department of Homeland Security, state this was the most secure and fair election in US history for which Trump fired him. Why do Republicans hate democracy? Stop lying!
Donald Trump, “Hero of the Stupid”.
Actually as a Dem state committee person I was censured by the Lancaster County Committee. I wear it as a badge of honor from the morons that sat on the board at that time.
As usual Pa Politics tells half the story. Yes the Republican Party lost 19000 voters but the Democratic Party lost 13000 also! Most like myself a life long Dem moved away to the ranks of non affiliation. I can change status anytime I want for primary voting if I feel a candidate is worth my support.
I doubt that Toomey give two f*cks about this.
Trump’s incompetence in handling the pandemic should have disqualified him but instead our formerly not quite crazy PA Republican Party is now doubling down on supporting incompetence and The Big Lie. I cannot believe Rs think he is their future.
Wonder if Tabas is going to solicit the opinions of the GOP Congressional Delegation? They should also ask the potential senate and Gov candidates Will this meeting be public? That debate will be hilarious. Does Toomey have to sit in the dock of the Zoom? Will the Philly lawyers defend him? or prosecute? You can not make this stuff up.
We elected Senator Toomey to work hard on national issues, especially those affecting Pennsylvania, and to exercise his considered judgment when he votes. He has done both. For that we should be thankful, whether you agree with him or not.
Pat Toomey, who I openly supported in the Jewish Exponent during the last election, is a serious, thoughtful, balanced conservative Republican. We should work hard to find someone of his caliber in the next election.

Toomey was right, for once. Trump is the WORST president ever, a loser who has ruined everything he has ever touched. He is a fraud and a criminal. I BELIEVE THAT IS WHAT YOU MEANT TO SAY
You know Toomey was wrong and Trump was the bestest President ever THATS WHAT I MEANT TO SAY
I’m a trumpster and this is a meaningless gesture; better the GOPe-controlled legislature issue a preliminary report on electoral fraud ASAP.
Toomey was right, for a change. Trump was worst president ever, and a damn criminal who attacked our democracy.
