U.S. Senator Pat Toomey is getting involved in the Republican primary for the 14th Congressional district, putting his support behind state Sen. Guy Reschenthaler (R-Allegheny) over state Rep. Rick Saccone (R-Allegheny).
“Guy Reschenthaler is a principled conservative who served our country in Iraq. I know he will fight for our shared values in Washington,” Toomey said.
Toomey backing Reschenthaler over Saccone, who lost in the special election for the 18th Congressional district, is another example of Republican leaders distancing themselves from Saccone. Ahead of the special election, Republican leaders began putting the blame for a potential loss on Saccone’s campaign, especially his low fundraising and outreach.
State Sens. Kim Ward (R-Westmoreland) and Pat Stefano (R-Fayette) also endorsed Reschenthaler’s candidacy.
Saccone beat out Reschenthaler and Ward in the conferee process for the 18th district special election.

I will support pat toomey in the primary by writing in his name for congress in the primary
so disappointing for toomey to stick his nose into this. really pat when do you care about western Pennsylvania? you stayed away from rick when he could have used a hand.
Rick was a crap candidate who couldn’t raise money, he proved himself to be a loser once. Good for Pat Toomey for stepping in and trying to make sure he’s not a two time loser. Say what you want about Pat but you can’t deny he’s run tough campaigns and come out on top. Imagine if Rick had pursued a state wide election. What a dud.
Maybe Toomey remembers that Rick signed the letter authored by Daryl Metcalfe condemning Pat for being soft on the 2nd Amendment after Sandy Hook.
Pat Toomey’s evolution from darling of the deplorables to noble statesmen is a beautiful thing.
When was he a darling of the deplorable? He refused to say that he voted from Trump all the way up until election day.
