Toomey, Murphy, Turzai & Other Republicans Endorse Raja

By Keegan Gibson, Managing Editor

Some big Republican names are throwing their weight behind Allegheny County Exec candidate D. Raja.

In a campaign release today, the businessman and Mt. Lebanon Township Commissioner touted the support of elected officials including Senator Pat Toomey, Congressman Tim Murphy Former Congresswoman Melissa Hart, and PA House Majority Leader Mike Turzai.

“I am enthusiastically endorsing Raja’s campaign for County Executive,” said Toomey in a statement. “With out-of-control spending at all levels of government, I know he’ll be a partner in restoring fiscal discipline. Allegheny County would be well served to have a County Executive who will put these fiscally conservative principles to action.”

In addition to a fondness for fiscal discipline, Toomey and Raja have in common PoliticsPA Top Operative Mark Harris. Harris managed Toomey’s successful 2010 campaign, and his new consulting firm Cold Spark Media counts Raja as a client.

Conservative Radio personality Glen Meakem

Perhaps even more  importantly, Raja also netted the endorsement of conservative Pittsburgh radio personality Glen Meakem. Meakem has a direct line to Tea Party voters in southwestern PA.

“As a business leader, I am excited to endorse Raja. He knows what it takes to compete in today’s economy and I know he’ll work hard to create the business environment in Allegheny County needed to create good paying jobs,” he said.
.

Raja’s primary  opponent is County Councilman Chuck McCullough. Tea Party leader Patti Weaver departed the race last week, when PoliticsPA reported that Raja appeared to have the momentum in the race.
