Joe Torsella is prepping for a bid for Pennsylvania State Treasurer in 2016.
At least that’s according to an invitation for a reception hosted by Comcast Executive Vice President and former Chief of Staff to Gov. Rendell David Cohen. Other prominent co-hosts include Wayne Spilove and Lisa Kabnick.
In an email accompanying the invitation, Cohen wrote, “Joe’s leadership speaks for itself, but I have had the opportunity to work closely with him at many intersections along the way, and he is exactly the smart, tough, and decisive leader we desperately need in our State Government.”
“I have no doubt that in the role of Treasurer, Joe will maximize the office to its fullest potential, and make a significant, positive difference in the everyday lives of Pennsylvanians.”
PoliticsPA is seeking comment from Torsella.
The event was held on December 1st and cost $5,000 (host) or $1,000 (supporter) to attend.
Torsella served as Ed Rendell’s Deputy Mayor for Policy and Planning. He then oversaw the construction of The Constitution Center before becoming President of the Pennsylvania State Board of Education.
From 2011 to 2013, Torsella served as U.S. Representative to the United Nations for Management and Reform.
He has ran for office twice before. First in 2004, he sought the Democratic nominee for PA’s 13th Congressional District but was defeated by Allyson Schwartz. He also briefly ran for the Senate in 2010 but dropped out after Arlen Specter switched parties.
The State’s current Treasurer is Rob McCord, is term-limited and can’t run again.
Other rumored Democratic candidates include Pittsburgh Controller Michael Lamb, Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski and Allegheny County Treasurer John Weinstein.

Not sure how this article became about McCord, but I definitely agree that McCord has left a bad taste in people’s mouths. Like it or not his campaign was very disappointing and in my view, came across as arrogant and he seemed disconnected from the average PA voter. I can remember at State Committee when he insisted on there being an endorsement vote, knowing full well there wouldn’t be an endorsement. I can remember looking over and he had a huge grin on his face, like he was just doing it out of spite. Very divisive indeed. During on the debate he even seemed uncontrolled and angry.
So glad Rob McCord’s political career is over!! Don’t let the door hit you on the way out McCord!! You won’t be missed!!
We’ll NEVER forget your dirty politics and racially-charged attacks!! See ya!!
Now lets talk about if torsella can win. he certainly looks good on paper.

Part of Treasurer McCord’s problem in the Gubernatorial primary was his late entrance into the race. Had he started sooner I believe we would have seen a much stronger performance. However, I agree the some of his attacks were a bit lacking.
The people of Pennsylvania clearly disagree with you. After embarrassing himself, using the race card, lying about his past, dishonoring his stepfather and using every attempt to divide the party; McCord was handed a solid third place DEFEAT!! Pennsylvanians, in fact, Pennsylvania Democrats rejected the dirty and arrogant politics of the cocky Rob McCord. Like many Pennsylvanians, I can’t wait for him to leave public office!!
Kevin , you should continue being delusional. Rob McCord is not arrogant, you’re just a fool. Without him giving PA a line of credit for the budget, we wouldn’t be a functional state right now. He is a down to earth, knowledgeable man, and you sir are just a tool.
The entire Commonwealth is relieved as we won’t have to endure another terrible, divisive, negative campaign by the arrogant Rob McCord. Pennsylvanians are looking forward to soon NOT having McCord in public office!!
