Trivedi’s Pledge is Best to Protect Social Security and Medicare for Our Seniors

ELVERSON, Pa. – One week before Election Day, the momentum is with Manan Trivedi as he receives an influential endorsement. The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare (NCPSSM), an organization with the express goal of protecting and promoting the longevity of Social Security and Medicare for current and future generations of retirees, has enthusiastically thrown their full support behind Trivedi’s campaign for Congress.

After spending the day at the Berks Encore’s 10th Annual Senior Expo, Trivedi thanked NCPSSM for their support and all the work they do on behalf of Social Security.

“After listening today to the concerns of nearly 3000 seniors that attended this beneficial expo in my community, I heard over and over that seniors need their representative to do more to fight for Social Security and Medicare,” Trivedi said. “NCPSSM has been fighting to protect these crucial services for years, and I will join that fight in Congress. These programs are a promise to all generations of America that if you work hard and put in your time, they will be there for you when you need it. I will keep that promise.”

Barbara B. Kennelly, President and CEO of NCPSSM, cited Trivedi’s understanding of the dire consequences of privatizing Social Security and readiness to forcefully oppose it, as well as his willingness to stand against health insurance reform repeals, which would likely bring an end to Medicare, as the determining factor in NCPSSM’s endorsement.

“Our nation needs Manan Trivedi’s leadership, vision and determination to fight for working families and older Americans,” Kennelly said. “He earned the endorsement of the National Committee because he understands and supports the critical roles that Social Security and Medicare play in the retirement and health security of our nation’s older citizens and their families. Trivedi is well-prepared to serve the needs of seniors and will make the preservation of Social Security and Medicare a priority in office.”

Trivedi is the only candidate to have signed a pledge to fight any efforts to privatize Social Security in whole or in part, cut benefits by a single dollar, or raise the retirement age a single year. His plan will protect the Social Security Trust Fund — the fund which Congressman Jim Gerlach voted to raid to the tune of 1.1 trillion dollars — and pay back the borrowed money with interest.

To make Medicare stronger, he will ensure that all seniors have timely access to quality care, encourage efficiency and innovation, close the “doughnut hole” in prescription drug coverage, and crack down on Medicare fraud.
