Trump Asserts He’ll Only Lose PA if Dems Cheat

Donald-TrumpDonald Trump is convinced he’ll win Pennsylvania.

In fact, he’s so sure that he asserting a loss will be the result of “cheating” from the other side.

“The only way we can lose in my opinion — I really mean this, Pennsylvania — is if cheating goes on,” Trump told supporters at an event in Altoona Friday. “I really believe it.”

“We have to call up law enforcement, and we have to have the sheriffs and the police chiefs and everybody watching,” he continued. “Because if we get cheated out of this election, if we get cheated out of a win in Pennsylvania, which is such a vital state, especially when I know what’s happening here, folks. I know. She can’t beat what’s happening here.”

“The only way they can beat it in my opinion — and I mean this 100 percent — if in certain sections of the state, they cheat, okay? So I hope you people can sort of — not just vote on the 8th — go around and look and watch other polling places and make sure that it’s 100 percent fine.”

CBS News is also reporting that the Trump campaign has a new feature on its website that allows volunteers to sign up as a “Trump Election Observer”. The page is captioned “Help Me Stop Crooked Hillary From Rigging This Election!”

Trump’s claim that “certain sections of the state” commit voter fraud seems to be a shot at Philadelphia, where Republicans (and some others) believe Democrats use underhanded tactics to pad the vote totals.

After the 2008 presidential election, the presence of two members of the New Black Panther Party outside of a polling place in Philly raised alarms throughout conservative media. The Justice Department, however, investigated the incident and dropped their inquiry while George W. Bush was still President.

More recently, Fox News’ Sean Hannity has cited the fact that the City of Brotherly Love had 59 divisions where Mitt Romney received no votes as proof of chicanery.

In reality voter fraud is incredibly rare, and those numbers don’t prove otherwise, as both Snopes and Ryan Godfrey explain (click to read the whole string of tweets):

  1. Throughout the awesome scheme of things you get an A+ just for hard work. Exactly where you misplaced me personally was first on all the facts. You know, as the maxim goes, details make or break the argument.. And that could not be more accurate right here. Having said that, permit me say to you what did work. The writing is really persuasive and that is possibly the reason why I am making an effort in order to opine. I do not make it a regular habit of doing that. Secondly, whilst I can easily see a leaps in reasoning you make, I am definitely not sure of how you appear to connect the details which inturn produce the final result. For now I shall yield to your issue but hope in the near future you actually link your facts better.

  2. Extrapolating Godfrey’s argument into a position that voter fraud is “incredibly rare” as you say is misleading:

    1) Although I agree with Godfrey correctly that it is impossible to change or delete votes, he ignores the fact that additional votes can be added by a conspiring elections board.

    2) Godfrey incorrectly assumes that both major parties are represented at every voting district: (a) not every credentialed minority inspector is recognized by the judge of elections, see 2012 election; (b) a minority inspector does not necessarily support his or her registered party (i.e., people can register opposite their personal beliefs in order to run for the minority inspector or clerk positions.); and (c) not every e-board has a minority inspector or clerk (or one who is a member of the minority party). If a district is 100% one party, then that district can’t have a true minority inspector and can only fill that position with a curbside election from members of the majority party. As such, there is no check on the majority party’s oversight of voting.

    3) Without a means of testing whether a vote is fraudulent, it can be very difficult to determine whether the vote is fraudulent. Unless a member of the district’s e-board recognizes the potential voter as not the person on the voting rolls, it is next to impossible to determine that the vote was fraudulent.

  3. The only way Dems lose Pennsylvania is if Republicans successfully suppress Dem voter turnout. Anyone remember the “John Kerry” posters and pamphlets in Philly in 2004 that said “vote for me, November Three”, which was the day **after** Election Day? They got a little more sophisticated with the unconstitutional Voter ID nonsense.

  4. further evidence of trump total cluelessness: his statement that ‘police and sheriffs’ will be monitoring who votes. since he’s never read the US Constitution, i guess it’s no surprise that he’s also never read the PA Election Code . HRC would have to have corruptly bought off every election board judge of elections, majority inspector, minority inspector, and clerks in PA to purchase the november election. ours isn’t even been approached yet, let alone bought…

  5. This dude knows he’s going to lose.
And he’s going to lose big.
6-8 percentage points. HRC wins approx. 350 electoral college votes

  6. The ONLY part that matters to us is the 2nd Amendment. Unless there’s a part about not having a bitch as President. #NeverBitchPOTUS

  7. It reminds me of that line from Casablanca.

“Well there are certain sections of New York, Major, that I wouldn’t advise you to try to invade.”

I’ve seen Trump’s supporters. I can just imagine some fat, toothless, under-educated, gun-toting, Trumpster, driving their rusty pickup into Tioga-Nicetown to intimidate a few voters.

    Yeah, right.

  8. HaHaHa-

I’m sure he read the 1st Amendment. He just thinks it means he can say anything he wants and get free press, and it only applies to white male property owners like himself.

  9. For him to have gotten to the 2nd, he would have had to have read the 1st Amendment. His public statements about the Gold Star family prove he never read the 1st Amendment.

He has mastered bigotry, self-destructive behavior, pettiness, and blaming the media. So …

  10. I think I know where this is coming from.

Trump hasn’t gotten past the 2nd Amendment in his reading of the Constitution. He doesn’t know about the 15th and 19th Amendments that make it legal (not cheating) for Blacks and Women to vote.

  11. Dogwhistle Trump is calling on his (white bigot, perhaps armed) fans to monitor “other people” (blacks) at voting booths in the black neighborhoods. How could that ever go wrong?

  12. What a moron. What a fraud of a candidate. Hillary is gonna destroy him. And not just in Philadelphlhia.

  13. Trumps definition of voter fraud: If non-whites, Hispanics or women are allowed to vote.

  14. As you noted, voter fraud is extremely rare. But the actions designed to stop the imaginary fraud have very real consequences, from Voter ID to reducing early voting to closing/moving polling sites. And so, too, does voter intimidation. Just spreading a rumor that people will be ‘checking you’ outside the polls can lower turnout.

This call to arms outside polling places is political thuggery at its worst. If he is concerned about monitoring the fairness of an election, let him get poll watcher certificates like everybody else.
