Trump to Campaign for Barletta in Luzerne County

Time to bring in the head honcho.

First reported by The Times Tribune and The Times Leader, President Donald Trump will visit the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre Township August 2 for a rally with Rep. Lou Barletta as he campaigns for U.S. Senate.

This news breaks just two days after Vice President Pence joined Barletta in Philadelphia to promote tax cuts, security, and the campaign to unseat incumbent Sen. Bob Casey. After Pence’s address, a fundraiser was held at the Union League for Barletta’s campaign, who trails Sen. Casey with cash on hand $9.8M to 1.56M.

Later that night, Trump took to Twitter to show his support for Pence’s visit and promote the campaign of one of his “first supporters”.

Barletta’s home county of Luzerne was just one of three counties that voted for Obama in 2012 then for Trump in 2016.

Earlier today, Axios reported that advisers to President Trump say Scranton’s own Joe Biden is the Democrat he most fears running against, and that Pennsylvania is the state he most worries will flip against him in 2020.

Updated with exact location of the rally.

  1. That’s way too funny. Trump goes to a Native American casino (that he railed against for helping bankrupt his Atlantic City casinos) to raise funds for a racist he wants to be elected to US Senate.

But why the hell do the Native American casino operators participate in this racist endeavor?

  2. Great idea! If any moderate Rs were unaware of Barletta’s right wing profile, there’s nothing like having Trump cuddle up to him to remove all doubt.

    1. How could anybody with a pulse not be aware that Barletta is a rightwing hater?

      1. Unimaginable as it is to people like us who read this blog, at least 5% of likely voters have yet to know who he is. Same principle that put Trump over the top.

  3. After what Lou did to Hazleton with letting the Hazleton city landfill reopen, he and Trump should take a good look at themselves in the mirror and leave the country, as we would much better off without them.

  4. POTUS can help Lou immensely. No fire in Republican Party belly in state, where is chairman? Where is desire to take out Casey. Bob Casey is beatable. Wolf is not. Apply that strategy and focus on Senate race only. Miss Rob Gleason

    1. I miss Rob Gleason too! I actually have to do things now. It’s really hurting my chances of running for Governor

  5. So, we are under 100 days when this visit happens on Aug 2nd. With Nov 6th election day the point of this visit is to take a candidate Lou Barletta who is being out raised 9.8 million to 1.6 million and wave a magic wand and suddenly all will be different. Again, and this bear repeating, if this election where in 2016 this would be BIG news but, sadly, for Lou he is 2 years too late and the election is in 2018. Recent polls have Lou down by 17 points and Scott Wagner down by 19 points. This is not good. Dems need to not rest on their laurels but so far so good.
